Episode #46 of the Manleywoman SkateCast is up. I spoke with Yuka Sato while at the US Nationals in Greensboro. I was VERY nice of her to take time out of her busy schedule while she was t here coaching Alissa and Jeremy. She's so down to earth, and I really enjoyed hearing her perspective on having Olympians as parents, the whole backstage Tonya Harding/Josee Choinard timing at the 1994 Olympics, and her thoughts when Surya Bonaly took off her medal in protest at Yuka's winning the World Championships.

Ooh, goody!! Love the photo of her and Jeremy--Jeremy looks GIGANTIC next to her, but he's not. And she is in fact tiny, too!

Just looked him up. I haven't really watched much figure skating from before 1996 except for Biellmann, Kwan and Lu. But I just saw him do a triple axel in a suit! Originally Posted by manleywoman

Yuka is soo funny!
My favourite quote:
Yuka: "I'd like to produce some shows and things. That's my plan right now. That's my next dream."
MW: "Well you've fulfilled a lot of dreams so far."
Yuka: "I'm a GREEDY person!"
And:
Yuka: "You don't learn pairs skating at 24. It's not right. It's not normal!"
Also what she said about Alissa and Jeremy not being weak was very touching.

The sound was great. In the beginning Yuka's voice was difficult to hear, but you quickly made an adjustment and the balance of the interview was excellent listening. :-) Originally Posted by manleywoman

Thanks for the skatecast. I agree with Sato's assessment re: Jeremy's mental toughness and confidence. I don't think any top-tiered skater can be mentally "weak" but distractions and lack of confidence can come into play.
