Anyone here a total computer tech/guru that can help explain something in "dumb guy terms"???

That stupid System Tool 2011 virus got loaded onto my computer. I've been reading up on it that it is a total scam virus pretending to tell you that you have all these virus's to get to to click on their link and buy their so called antivirus program that actually does nothing (or something like that).

I've been reading the directions on how you remove this System Tool 2011 from your computer, but I don't understand it at all. I can't follow it when it tells you to run all these codes and do this restore and remove that program and blah blah blah. Can someone help me with some very simply "dumb guy" instructions that can help me get this friggin' thing off my computer? Without messing anything else up???

What version of Windows are you using? And what specifically are you trying to do? Are you being told to boot up in Safe Mode? Are you trying to do a system restore to get rid of it?

Something similar happened to me in the past, some virus pretending to be antivirus software. I was able to get mine off by using this software called Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Here are instructions on how to download and use this software for your specific virus (System Tool): http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=66064. The article mentions that you should rename some of the software files so that the virus won't be suspicious of them. I didn't do this and it worked ok, but it's probably better that you do (who knows, maybe the virus is still on my computer, lurking...)

If the virus is preventing you from installing/running programs, then download the software (Malwarebytes) onto a flash drive using a different computer, and then start your own computer in safe mode and transfer it to your computer and run the scan while in safe mode.
