    Seeking Information about Figures

I'm putting together a page on my newly revamped website to list everything I can find about figures. Upcoming classes (there is one!), where to buy blades and scribes, and links to cool old videos. If anyone here has anything to add to the page, please let me know and I'll add it in.

    http://www.manleywoman.com/figures/

    Thanks so much.

The visual and sound quality is beautiful and it contains footage of Trixie Schuba and Janet Lynn dueling off during the figures competition at the Olympics in Sapporo. The arena is silent and the carving sounds of the blades are somewhat relaxing, I find..

Thanks Sylvia. I haven't gone through all the old YouTube vids yet, but that is a great one.

I've added a few more things to the page, including a downloadable PDF from the USFS rulebook explaining all the figures, rules, tests, etc.

Thanks lovepairs. Added PSC&HS and another rink in Culver City, CA, that someone emailed me about.

Here's a recently uploaded video of footage from ABC's 1976 Olympics coverage of the Ladies' Compulsory Figures competition (Dorothy Hamill and Dianne de Leeuw, with commentary by Dick Button): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbwiLcbwGoo

I also love figures, and I'm always amazed to see skaters from my club, older than me, doing patch. Such control, amazing.

I know that Karen Courtland Kelly has produced a dvd which demonstrates figures. I don't know the name of it, but from what I saw of it, it seemed quite thorough.

If anyone lives in Illinois, Robert Crown Center in Evanston is holding patch classes this summer on their studio rink, Monday and Wednesday mornings from 6:00 to 7:00 am.

I purchased it in Lake Placid last month. It's an excellent demonstration video reference, however, it has little to no tips or instructional narration. If someone could create mp3's with instructional pointers, it would be more beneficial.

Just posting to say that I'm also a fan of figures! I take a class in Charlotte, NC, and I'm hooked. Thanks for all the info Allison and everyone else. It's really helpful.

I must say that after watching the videos and reminiscing Olympic figures of yesteryear, I am totally hooked on all things figures. I've been scouring ebay to find some figure blades for my broken down Riedells. So far no luck, but if anyone knows where I can score some figures blades I'd be greatly appreciated.

Try calling skate shops, like Rainbo (IL) or Skaters Paradise (VA). A lot of them never got rid of their inventory. i bought mine at Skater's Paradise around 2001, and am still using the same blades, since I don't get them sharpened often at all. (and due to having a toddler and another on the way, haven't done figures myself in 3 years )

What's harder is finding someone these days to do a proper sharpening.
