Whose Don Quixote performance did you like the best?

I just returned from watching the ballet Don Quixote. Many pieces of the music reminded me of old figure skating performances. Obviously a very overused music, but it's a wonderful music for skating. I hope you remember those performances and programs. I don't remember what year they skated in, with the exception of Petrenko (88,89) and Yuka Sato (93 &94), so I have left out the years and competitions. I hope that won't pose a problem.

Question: Which Don Quixote performance did you like the best? Short or long does not matter.

ETA: You can pick two performances.

No surprise from me : John Curry had the best Don Quixote (and the best Sheherazade) ever.
I like the program of Yuka Sato but in term of interpretation, it's not the best.

(Although I'll always have a soft spot for Junior Worlds Plushenko, if only for the cuteness factor. He was so little!

John Curry, no question. I can't even remember what the other ones look like, but Curry's performance is engraved in my mind.

John Curry of course.

And I'd give honorable mention to Mark Mitchell's 1993 long program and Alizah Allen's 1996 and '97 long program.

But I really find that music to be pretty boring and I wish Curry had chosen more interesting music for his masterpiece that has inspired so many followers.

I knew John Curry would win running away, that's why I made it a multi-choice poll, where you can pick 2 (I edited my original post right after I posted it). I was thinking Curry would get first place votes. Who will get the second place?

I love Don Q music, even though it's overused. I loved Viktor Petrenko's 1988 Olympics LP. At age 18 he was so mature artistically that I thought he would become a great artistic skater, but it seems later he focused more on the jumps (and still was inconsistent with them). He does have a great presence on the ice.

I thought the music fit Irina really well because of her vivacious personality.

Who can forget M&D's SP to this music at the 1994 Olympics where they unexpectedly delivered a clean performance, with Artur falling on the last pose. Again, great energy in that performance.

Sarah Hughes's is not a choice? ;-) That, to me, is the most unforgettable.... but not in a good way.

The arm movements, all one beat off the music, are burned in my brain forever.

I must admit to not having seen half of the DQ performances on the list. Anyone knows which version to view for which skater (and if you have links?)? I know I should watch Curry's at the 76 Olympics, Sluts at the 99-00 GPF and Honda's at the 02 Olympics. Don't know much about the others

Curry was awesome, no doubt about it.

John Curry's for competition & Klimova & Ponomorenko's fabulous exhibition number after a Skate America comp. (1990?) They didn't compete for some reason but did appear in the exhibition.

Thanks for the link. Such a cutie! I noticed he did the Biellman on both sides like Irina in this program. Even at that young age (13?) he had such confidence on the ice!
