Never mess with a geocacher. We know the best places to hide a body....
The parents take turns on the nest. Every 20-30 minutes the one "on duty" gets up and turns the eggs. The eggs will hatch mid March and then the fun begins.

Thank you post posting this. I'm going to be checking it everyday now!![]()
Nubka - Unpaid Slave Laborer...
There's been a bit of parental activity on the nest today. More "fussing" and "nestoration than I've seen so far. The mom was standing up a bit ago and tilting her head down and to the side like she was listening for tapping.
One of the eggs is close to hatching although it may take a day or two to get completely out of the shell. The hatchlings are fed within a few hours of hatching.

The first egg is hatching.Mom just picked up a good sized piece of shell and moved it out of the way. Haven't seen the chick yet, though. The camera operator has been panning in and out. Yesterday the male brought several fish to the nest and Mom chowed down. The first feeding should be within a few hours of the chick emerging.

I wonder why most nest builders didn't evolve to build a roof over their nests to protect them from the rain, snow, etc.
The eggs have hatched and there are now three fuzzy babies to keep mom busy!
Thank you for the link, Sassafras. I love it.
I watched the saved clip, "New eaglet's first meal." The poor thing couldn't even keep its head up. It was hitting the bottom of the nest time after time after time.

Thanks so much for this. I've been watching since the day that the first egg hatched and it's awe-inspiring. It's so amazing to watch one of these large, powerful birds feed the eaglets so gently when they are so small and weak. I love all the information and the moderated chat on the site as well.
Eagles have a wide wing span. They need open air above their nests so they can fly in and out. That's why they usually nest atop dead trees.
It is very hard to watch incubating eagles endure snow and rain to keep their eggs warm. It is also hard to watch the chicks panting in the glaring sun of summer. Often a parent will take a position at the nest's edge that casts a shadow on the chicks.
The 3 Norfolk kids are getting big fast!
2 of the Decorah eggs have hatched - #3 should be soon. There was some excitement on this one yesterday. The first part of this video shows Dad accidently pulling one of the little ones out of the bowl with a clip on the end of Mom to the rescue.

Nope, the babies are nuzzled under the mama keeping warm. Or maybe it's the papa right now, they take turns.
