I love themed menus - but I admit I gave up on the Oscars a few years ago. Instead, we go with cocktail party-type fare, with either simple or fancy appetizers depending on our time and inclination, and cocktails. We can graze on that for hours.

Instead, we go nuts for the Super Bowl, basing our menu on regional fare associated with the teams and host city, and possibly their team colours as well.

And, I already have a full day of menus planned for the Royal Wedding

At some of your choicies. As for Winter's Bone -- it's got to be stewed squirrel. If you ever do see the movie, you'll get a primer in how to prepare it yourself -- from shooting the little critter , to skinning and cleaning it and then cookin' it up in a cast iron skillet.

Sounds like a plan -- I'm going to a potluck AA dinner, where each table is doing a cuisine theme inspired by previous films that won or received Oscar nominations. I'm at the Slumdog Millionaire table. Yum! (There are also Chocolat, Moonstruck and Julie & Julia tables among others, so I think the food should be quite good!)

Not sure this is going to help your menu, but in TS3, Mr. Potato Head dons a tortilla and a pickle as "body" substitutes. So you could at least have a token bowl of pickles or something; maybe make a display of a giant pickle with Mr. Potato Head parts stuck in it.

SkatingFan5 post #14 - EXCELLENT table theme choices! Every table will be great by the sound of it. Add "Waitress" for the pie table and you're good to go.

The black and white ideas are good. Maybe I can make a swan-shaped cake or something. The UPcakes were too cute .

Red Bull and cold pizza? Oh, the humanity. Who among us does not know people who would actually eat this? Or actually has?

I also thought Skittles would be a fine course for your average tech nerd for those 2 am meals.
