Weell, to be honest he skated for what he didn't like constantly when he was paired with Mukhortova, so no wonder he wants to have more choice now. Plus it's not like Maxim himself is a talentless skater with no artistry whatsoever. They both gain a lot from the partnership, IMO.

This. And as a result of his new found "freedom", I think he's doing a lot of experimenting. I also think he'll refine his choreography with time. Last season he was excited about their SP music and working with a modern dancer. However, he realized and acknowledged, the original plan wasn't working. They modified the SP considerably by Worlds, but were stuck with the basic program. I think he has good ideas and will be able to develop them over time. Consider Steuer. His programs for S/S are sometimes hit and miss, but overall he's really improved with time. He also benefits with having a pair team that is able to take those edgy programs and perform them well (his other teams not so much).

It always cracks me up when FSU posters get all about Morosov choreography and can't figure out why anybody would use it. If I were a skater and I wanted to win, I wouldn't hesitate one second to use a Morosov program. Which is why he has all the business he can handle. I suspect most don't give a rat's patootie about his personal life. Or even that the programs aren't as aesthetic as others. They only care that if they execute the elements well, the judges will score them higher than the competition because the program is structured to get points. Fans may care, but the bottom line is winning the comp. Or it would be for me if I'd invested the amount of time and money it takes to become an elite skater. Thus, I don't fault any skater for using Morosov as a choreographer or even as a coach. I'm willing to give Trankov the benefit of the doubt that he'll go the Steuer route in the future rather than the Morosov route and hopefully he'll have skaters like S/S who can take that choreography and make it amazing. After all, he and Tatiana haven't done too badly with "crappy" Morosov choreography thus far.

Well, the judges seem to think so, and since their's is the opinion that determines the winner of a comp, I'd go with them if I were a skater.

Of course you're correct - the judges think so, so it makes sense to continue going to him for choreography (ditto to Lori Nichol, who alse gets her fair share of complaints).

His programs are always complex. Some a little less than others obviously but I don't remember Steuer ever doing a basic, simple program.

I'd like Steuer to chorograph for them as well, but he never gave V/M the same quality he gave S/S (probably because he knew very well Stas couldn't execute the elements). So, I expect V/T will go to Morozov for at least one of their programs through Sochi. And when they are on, it won't matter. Their free at 2012 Worlds was magnificent.

He is great at packaging and re-packaging skaters, but as a skater I would hate to have to rely on him in the season leading up to the Olympics.

Lyrical or Sexy? The whole truth about the new programmes

Hello our beloved readers. Soon the GP series will start in the USA. We are as ready as we should be. Follow us!Today we'll tell you about our first competition this season.

M: We participated the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf - quite a popular B event among the skaters. Many participate it to test the new programmes, to get into the competitive mood. Besides, it's where the judges exams take place, so there are many specialists who can give the needed feedback.

T: Next year Oberstdorf will be an olympic qualifier. For those who didn't get a spot at the worlds. All and all this event is considered the most serious among the B events.

M: We are satisfied with our skate: we gained a decent amount of points for the first competition. It's not our limit. The lifts were given a 3rd level, we missed levels on the spins. We didn't put too much effort in our FS: we didnt' take risks, were calm. It was decided to go for the lower levels - it's not what we were looking for in that point of time.

T: The first competition is always hard. Add the fact Oberstdorf is in the mountains. We made many mistakes in the SP. The nervers: we missed competing so much and wanted to show all we want so badly that we made mistakes.

M: We checked the FS costumes - during the test skates we didn't wear costumes at all. We were comfortable, the crowd liked it, the feedback was positive. The programmes were received positively, which is a good thing too. Reckon have we skated the SP cleanly it would be received much more positively.

T: BTW, I haven't heard anyone really hating our music choice. There are a few people who dislike it. I guess it's partly because there 3 "Godfathers' in the Russian team: ours, Davankova/Deputat's and Riazanova/Tkachenkos'. We all use different arrangements though.

M: WE keep repeating we dont' take this music for a soundtrack with the famous story to tell. Not at all! We didn't attempt to depict mafia! There were all those jokes on Trnakov, TRanchello etc. It's funny indeed. But it doesn't mean much - we take that music as a beautiful blues. I'm trying to show a person who likes women, an italian fashionista, Tanya is a gorgeous woman in an evening dress.
Our characters are flirting with each other. We wanted to skate a sexy programme that would make people smile again and again. See what the pairs usually do: either they skate some lyrical snot: skating slowly and femininely showing how much they love each other. Or the opposite - take some fun music and just do the elements to it. It's not our case. -то веселую музыку и задорно выполняют элементы. Это не про нас.
Every time we are trying to be different, we are not looking for the easy way. Our programme is a dance, we even use some ice dance elements. I'm happy the audience understands us: I read on the internet: `that's sex!' `what a great sexy programme!' Spot on!

T: You might wonder why the `Godfather' - there are plenty other good melodies. There are several reasons: first of all we really like the melody - it is well known, genious. And it's a blues.

M: Secondly all the non NA pairs who are attempting to skate the blues look funny. If not all - most of them. We think it's more or less the same when the Americans or the Canadians are trying to depict the Russian soul in the Russian dance. We wanted to skate to a blues but not look like clowns. So we chose a music which we think is a bit less NA.

T: We met Stephane Lambiel in Oberstdorf. He liked our programmes.

M: The only thing he disliked was my haircut, while he said Tanya is smashing in the SP.

T: When Tanya will skate with the dress she skated in the show it'll be great. It's the same, but purple rather than red. We think it looks more expensive.

They basicly say they show relationship of man-women, but not in a classical way, not in a boring way, always the same way. they want to show love, but in a sexy way, with originality and edge.
