The Spartacus prequel premiered 1/21 on STARZ. I thought it was a really good start to the mini series.
Did anyone watch it? Any fans of the show? What are your thoughts?

I am a fan but I will have to wait until it is on DVD before I can watch it unless it comes on Rogers Ondemand.![]()
"Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned / Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned."
I believe the first episode is up on the Starz website. I thought the episode was too heavy handed in it's prequelness like saying "See how different everything was" with
Spoiler
Batiatius and Solonius being best buddies (and that makeup was a little jarring on Solonius).
Lucretia declaring she'd never sleep with a gladiator
Ok, I should know better than to make snap judgements about this show. Lucy Lawless wasLike Xena, Livia, Atia, and Servilia all rolled into one.
Now I'm really curious to see how they'll handle Gannicus' departureSpoiler
Since Gannicus is one of the five leaders of the slave revolt and if they are following history, should live to see the second season
BTW, I did not realize Manu Bennett (Crixus) was a classically trained dancer. This would explain why his fight with Auctus (played by a former ballet dancer) was so fluid.
This show is my guilty pleasure. Am really not into violence, but the script is so crap and the actors so.

Still waiting for it to come out on DVD. I absolutely love this show and hope they turned down x-rated content for this prequil. BTW... Does anyone know if they have choosen a replacement for Andrew Whitfield yet?

I love this show!
Andy Whitfield will be replaced by Liam McIntyre, and they do look kind of alike!
Can't wait for the second season, and see how Gannicus factor into the story. But so far I do not like Ganny that much because they made him into this mopey mess.
I might sleep with a gladiator.
Well your wish didn't come true! I stream it through Netflix but I have to watch it on my laptop in my bedroom late Sat. nights because there is no way I'm taking a chance that the kids will come down and see or hear what's playing on the big screen. I feel so dirty, like I'm watching soft porn in my room!

I can't believe they only made six episodes for this prequel.I didn't even get into Blood and Sand - saw the first two episodes or so, was kind of disappointed because I loved the Rome series so much, but my DH really enjoyed it and said the plot got so much better. I'll have to go back and watch them now that GotA is almost over.

I enjoyed episode 5, surprised at who died.
All I can say this show has furthered my love for Manu Bennett(Crixus). His acting has been so on point and to see him literally beaten down(spirtually and mentally) in GOTA has been an eye opening experience.
Also, I think Manu is simply beautiful. Also, it appears he does not use a "sock" in the frontal nude scenes. He has been the only main supporting character who've seen doing full frontal. God bless him for it.
On other forums some the posts keep repeating how Crixus is a brute and nothing more. I think the character of Crixus has evolved the most from watching B&S(Blood and Sand) and Gods of the Arena(GOTA). I don't think many of posts have not really looked at the character since episode 6.
I love the houston chronicle's recaps. LOL @ "Making Maru Videos"

Hey Topaz, didn't you enjoy that full frontal scene of Tulius?
God, I hate him more than that creepy, kohl-lined Roman that got it on with the slave, Dionna.
I only wish that Crixus would close his mouth. What's up with that? Oh, and hurry up and clean up and cut that hair!![]()
I'd like Crixus to speak louder than a whisper.
And wear less clothes.![]()

Does this bear any resemblance to the classic Hollywood film "Spartacus" with Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier and Jean Simmons?
So thoughts on the finale?
Of all of Crixus' looks, I liked this one best. I was not digging the Brian Bosworth haircut last season nor the Barbarian look this year.
