Livia's not out of the picture. But I think she's really more Mary's morality pet than Matthew's fiance--we knew nothing about her, she appears out of nowhere, and then...she's really sweet. And I think Mary treating her nicely including resisting attempts to undermine their engagement (while getting mired deeper and deeper in one she's at best got mixed feelings about) lets Mary seem nicer and definitely more mature.
