I didn't know there was going to be a Christmas Special. (downloading now) I saw Downton Abbey on the TV listings and assumed it was a re-run.

The Xmas special was absolutely Downton at its very best. I'll be honest and have found some of season 2 rather ridiculous but it was truly back to form last night. We were all on the edge of our seats throughout.

From what I've heard/read/seen, I'd have to agree. There are some very routes taken in S2......

i was home with my 85 year old mother over Christmas. I'd mentioned Downton and how much I like it. She was looking at the TV schedule and she said "Oh, here's an episode of that show you like: DOWNTOWN Abbey." We both got a good laugh when I corrected her.

The first 3 (of 4) episodes of Season 1 can be viewed online -- in the US only? -- at PBS.org until January 17, 2012 (episode 4 will repeat on PBS later this week and then be online, I assume): http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/watch/index.html
