Nice program

I am of wondering why her minders have allowed for such vision to be published as it is far from preparation for an international competition, as others we are seeing are at full polish where this well behind. She is obvious still unsecure on her landing leg and and the lay back position indicates perhaps there is a back problem. She certainly appears to have done low body work and is a little chunkier then before. For such a young one to be dealing with body imperfections it must be difficult.

Wishing her well but without a sachel of tripples she will be finding being competitive difficult.

They were probably not anticipating that it would be seen overseas, only locally as it was a local paper that had posted it.

As for "body imperfections" - that is a rather offensive comment. If I was her mother reading this I would want to slap you for that. Comment on the skating but not what you view as not living up to your standard of what a skater's body should be. I think she looks fine and she did when she was at Nationals.

She looks great, and the program looks good too. With more mileage between the date when it was filmed and 4CCs it should look even better. I hope her recovery continues well; she was a real pleasure to watch last year.

Whilst it's good for other skaters to get opportunities too, Cheltzie could earn extra ranking points by competing at Junior Worlds which could help her secure GPs in the future. Although I guess the two events are very close together.

Cheltzie did seem to have gained a little weight but that is understandable for somebody who has been out with an injury. Also, she is going through puberty. She seems taller and her body shape has changed so you can't really compare directly with his she looked liked before (girls' bodies increase their body fat percentage during puberty, it's a natural process).

It's a different body and it's quite extraordinary that she adapted to it so well, especially taking into consideration her injury as well.

She definitely doesn't look out of shape!

And that performance was incredible for somebody who only recently returned to skating.

All jumps clean, program quite fun. You can see she's still not in top shape and lots of polishing is needed but taking everything into account, she looks fantastic.

It was a local paper who published it. They probably don't think outside the local community. And they certainly wouldn't even be aware FSU exists. Most people in Australian skating don't even know about it.

Very true. Having said that, this particular local paper is edited by Belinda Noonan (for those not in the know, she's a former Australian skater/coach and has done skating commentary during the Winter Olympics). I know this because this paper sometimes drops into my letterbox at home. I remember being very surprised to see her name and picture as editor the first time I looked through it (rather than putting it straight into the recycle bin ). At least it explains why a local rag published a story about figure skating, particularly as Cheltzie's rink isn't even in the same municipality! But your point stands - it probably wasn't realised that people outside the local area would see it. And as I haven't seen a hard copy of the paper since before Christmas, it's doubtful even the local community has seen it!

The footage was "published" by Belinda Trussell who is Head Figure Skating coach of the Olympic Winter Institute. I can only presume that it is an attempt to quash rumours regarding Cheltzie's fittness to compete at 4CC and ultimately gain selection to World Championships. Selection will go to the highest ranked skater after 4CC which will remain Cheltzie even if she doesn't compete. I have wondered why it was "put out there" at this time when it is obviously just a training run through.

Ah well that explains why the clip was posted. I tend to agree it has probably been put out there for strategic reasons.

Cheltzie was at Nationals doing the practise sessions but withdraw from the competition.

Actually Belinda is the Editor of the Burwood Scene (which probably has other offshoot local papers as well) and is very much in the Canterbury area She is a great supporter of local skaters/Christmas shows/events at the Canterbury rink where Cheltzie Skates and they often appear in her paper.

Thanks - Burwood Scene definitely has a distribution much wider than Burwood then. I don't live in Burwood either, but still receive it under that title. I've just never considered Canterbury to be part of the Burwood area - probably because as a kid it took way too long to get from Burwood to Canterbury Ice Rink by public transport (still does), so it seemed a much further distance away than it actually is. But I'm going to stop automatically chucking the paper in the recycling now!

And it's Ladies. A clean program with 3toe and 3sal, if you have decent basics, will earn you top 10 at Europeans and top 20 at Worlds.

Cheltzie has been injured and only recently started doing triples again.

Chantel had the option of going to any B assignment to try to get a higher score but didn't. Her brother went to 2 JGPs, and now FCC, and JW, so I'm sure they could have sent her somewhere if they thought she could match Brooklees score. Chantel landed no triples at nats and Brooklee landed 5, so I doubt she thought she could match the score. If clean Brooklee has a chance to earn Australia extra JGP spots, Chantel with no triples would not.

The lucky one seems to be Jamiee Nobbs. She got JW when she was 13 and 14 as an alternate, last year got it at the last minute when Chelzie got to go the Olympics as origionally Chelzie was going to JW. This year, due to the min score rules she got FCC, otherwise it would have gone to the senior ladies at nats. She has really good timing! I hope she does well there.[/QUOTE]

Well as always comments are made with little or no knowledge and Chantelle spealt Chantelle, and I are both upset with how this comment sounds. There was no option for Chantelle to attend a B grade assignment as we simply did not have the money.......Yes her brother attended 2 JGP's, and will attend 4C's and JW's....geez makes it sound like we are loaded.. The fact of the matter is that our initial plan was that Bren and Chantelle would attend 1 JGP, the same one. Brendan was offered 2 that were very close together and cost affective, Chantelle was offered none. In this situation the decision was for Brendan to do the 2 especially after losing 3 1/2 months of training last year, it was important to get him back on track. Although Chantelle was disappointed at missing out on the JGP she supported the decision for Brendan. As for 4C's well we are getting there on frequent flyer points and JW we are very lucky that someone offered to sponsor his airfare to his first JW. They have been waiting 3 years to be able to do this for him. As for me I have 4 skaters in total at JW so my costs are divided between all of them including Brendan.
Will he have this opportunity next year, absolutely not unless something changes dramatically.
As for Chantelle, she does have triples, unfortunately this year has seen her start off very badly, she has grown a lot and that has affected her jumping. However our goal was for her to peak at Nationals, she was very upset with herself that she did not really go for the triple in the short but at the end of the day it is no longer all about the jumps. Olympic Champion....no quad...but my what a skate.

As for 4C's skaters must meet the ISU requirements and only 2 senior ladies have done that, Phoebe has decided not to go so the only other age eligible skater is Jamiee, if she did not go NO it would not have gone to another senior skater.

Chantelle and I have our long term plans and she is exactly where she needs to be right now and I am very proud of her both as her mum and as her coach.

I hope everyone continues to support all of our skaters in their endeavours, they all work very hard regardless of the placing at the end of the day. They do it because they love it and the parents support them because of the joy it brings them to see their children involved in such a beautiful, athletic sport.

I don't think sammyf meant anything malicious, she just tried to explain why Chantelle wasn't chosen.

Thank you for explaining the situation so well though and good luck with everything. I just checked the protocols and both of Chantelle's programs were very impressive as far as non jump elements go. Hope to see Chantelle on the JGP next season.

I guess that's all very well and good, but Lee wants so much more than to phone it in. Her element sheet for nationals (before withdrawing) included a 3toe/3toe and 3lutz for the short, and six triples for the free.

It is no secret that Cheltzie has set herself very ambitious goals for this quadrennium, so hopefully she'll be able to work through the injury and show everyone what she's really capable of.

Will she have sufficient recovery / training time til 4CCs?

I just want her to skate decently at 4CCs and Worlds so she can be invited to a GP or two next season.
