The 1961 World Team...did we loose any....

Say,does anyone know if any of the Skaters in the plane crash were Learn to Skate coaches? I've always wondered if we lost any Learn to Skate coaches in that crash.

You might be right that it didn't exist. But then....who's to say? Maybe it did. Does anyone know the answer to that and to my first question. BTW. I'm surprised there are no skating Tribrute Shows to remember them.

There was one in 2001 at Madison Square Garden.

This is true. Since this show took place in early October, 2001, it also became a Tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11. I believe the funds raised from the show went to USFS Memorial Fund for the 1961 US World Team and for the terrible losses on 9/11. It was even more appropriate that the show took place in NYC after that.

According to Wikipedia, the names of the 6 coaches that died in that 1961 plane crash were lvah "Linda" Hadley, William Kipp, Maribel Vinson Owen, Daniel "Danny" Ryan, Edi Scholdan, and William Swallender -- see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabena_Flight_548

Chances are pretty good that some, if not all, of them coached beginner skaters at some point in their careers.

Has anyone read the latest book, published this year (2010) about the 1961 plane crash, titled Indelible Tracings, by Patricia Shelley Bushman?

I just came across the book's site that has a page about the coaches: http://www.1961team.com/Coaches.html
