Fans Await Unveiling of Kim Yu-na's Skating Programs for Olympic Season

With 240 days remaining before the start of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, Kim Yu-na is busy training to defend her title. She will start her season with two International Skating Union Grand Prix Series events -- Skate Canada in October and the Trophée Eric Bompard in Paris in November.

Last summer, Kim announced that she would retire after the Sochi Games. Fans are now anxiously waiting to see her new programs for this season, which will highlight the finale of her decorated career. Kim plans to announce these in September, just before the Grand Prix Series begins. She decided on her free skate program in April while training with long-time choreographer David Wilson in Canada. The pair will work on wrapping up her short program this month as Wilson is scheduled to attend two of Kim’s gala shows in Seoul from June 21 to 23.

Thank you! So no announcement on Yuna's music choices until September. Why so much secrecy? This could either bring epic success or fail in unusually high expectations. I hope she chooses excellent pieces. I've always wondered how Rachmaninoff's will go with her.

Imagine she also chose Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2! I would die and go to heaven! Haha

I wonder why she's waiting so long to unveil her choices? Eh, keep 'em wanting more I guess.

I'm hoping to see better programs than last year's. Vampire and Les Mis were nice but I think (pray) she and David can come up with something very special for her last competitive season.

I'm very much looking forward to finding out her music choices. I can't believe she'll go for Rach 2. Ideally, like a lot of other Yu-Na fans, I'd love to see The Lark Ascending skated perfectly. It's not going to happen, but I do hope she chooses, or accepts, something original and doesn't resort to a warhorse. I'm sure she would do it nicely, but I'd be so disappointed.
Be with me always—take any form—drive me mad! only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! it is unutterable! I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!"

I have rarely seen a news clip so bereft of actual news .

I was actually waiting for the announcer to yell "PSYCH!!!!" at the end.

    latest on yuna and olympics..

    from ynk forum

Reporters have finally gotten a glimpse of the new season programs from David Wilson. He said in an interview with the Japanese media that the new short program portrays two sides of the coin--happiness and sorrow, and the long program projects something infatuating and sensual. YuNa later confirmed on that with the Korean media.

Few more tidbits from YuNa's media interview. http://sports.media.daum.net/general...30623191910146

-- in terms of technical elements, YuNa said her focus is to perfect the techniques that she is already used to rather than to attempt something new. In contrast, both of the new programs are characteristically different from what she has previously done.

-- She will officially unveil the new programs around September.

-- nothing has been decided on her new dresses. YuNa said she didn't think she should necessarily conform to the widespread perception relating to the jinx of dress color.
    and it begins...

    from her q and a

-she is recovering from her injury and she can do jump training now, including the triples. she also said that her condition is good but only about 70%.. because the pain is still there..

-she was asked about mao (as always) about her score in SA.. yuna said that she's not in the right position to comment and thinks that all skaters including mao are putting their best efforts

    - again she said that her LP is intense compared to her sp.. and now she's getting used to it..

    - she's considering competing in dec (b tournament)..

Glad to hear Yuna's back on the ice! I really hope she does a senior B event prior to Sochi. I think it's important, or at least desirable, for her to get some competitive mileage with the new programs before Sochi. (And, selfishly, I really want to see the programs! :-))

Good to hear she's back on the ice but seeing as how she's still in pain, I hope she doesn't push herself too much.

Informed she has taken a Korean Olympic Committee official's seat by mistake, and her place is actually at the rear of the stage, the Vancouver Games gold medallist stifles an embarrassed smile and retreats to sit among her figure skating cohorts.
It might be the first time Kim has ever taken a back seat to anyone in South Korea.
    This too will pass away.
