Proves that she's breaking gender barriers too! I know ladies who would be preferred to be called "sportsmen" because it doesn't bring gender in to the context since that doesn't matter. I guess it's just all a matter of taste.

24th annual awards to international sports figures

    by Philip Hersh.

    Women

Gold: Yuna Kim, figure skating, South Korea. Despite the enormous weight of her country's expectations, the most celebrated athlete in South Korea gave her nation the celebration it wanted with breathtaking skating and a runaway victory.

Silver: Lindsey Vonn, alpine skiing, U.S. Not only did she win the Olympic downhill despite a badly bruised shin and the pressure of being the most publicized U.S. athlete, Vonn won a bronze in Super-G; a third straight World Cup overall title; a third straight World Cup downhill title; and 11 Cup races to become the all-time U.S. leader.

Bronze: Wang Meng, short track speedskating, China. The unpredictability of this sport makes it more impressive that Wang, a heavy favorite in the shorter races, won both the Olympic 500 (for the second straight time) and the 1,000 as well as gold in the relay.
    This too will pass away.

Since you brought it up, what do you think of Mao approaching Orser in the first place and Orser’s own account on flirting with the idea? And that was followed by Mao’s “I was shocked to hear such rumor” comedy and JSF’s “We don’t do anything that could be detrimental to Korea-Japan relations” BS.

Mao is not a child and she should be accountable for the contacts made for her coaching arrangement. Imagine what it would have been like if a similar thing had happened between, say, Michelle and Sasha or Irina.

    Yes, I do.
We live in an ageist society where everything is based on youth, but I hated being 18. I don't like teenagers any more now than I did then. I'm 49 now and there is no way that I'd go back to my teens and 20s - even if I knew what I know now, I don't want to go through all that again. I found it a very difficult time. - Buzz Osborne of the Melvins

The word 'herstory' has been created and used to tell women's stories.

Because that was such a legit competition...run by the USFS...on Facebook.

Best of luck to Kim at Worlds. I doubt she'll be challenged this year.

Eight great female athletes of 2010

By Brian Cazeneuve > INSIDE OLYMPIC SPORTS

    Sports Illustrated

    Kim Yu-Na
    South Korea, figure skating
Kim won the ladies title at the Vancouver Winter Games, capturing Korea's first Olympic figure skating medal. She did it by earning the highest marks in both the short program (78.50) and the long (150.06), establishing a new record for highest combined score (228.56) since the sport changed to its current scoring tables. Though she trained primarily in Canada, away from the national spotlight, Kim was under enormous pressure to win gold for her country as the reigning world champion and Korea's most recognized and best-compensated athlete. In her free skate in Vancouver, she landed six triple jumps and skated a stunning routine to Gershwin, living up to her nickname "Queen Yu-na."

Some actual footages of Yuna training in LA from a Japanese Tv show?!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gyNchNWehg

How in the world they managed to go inside and video taped her?

The training footage was old from the press conference when Yuna announced her coaching change to Peter Oppegard.

They also used some footage from a public session, which doesn't really count.

These guys have been hanging around EWIP for the past week and were thrown out when shooting the practice session. They have since parked themselves across the street..hence the fuzzy videos of Yuna entering EWIP.

What is it they say..all press is good press, as long as they spell your name correctly?

I find it fascinating that Japanese TV is keeping the Yuna/Mao flames burning.
    Happy Skating!

Yeah..but it's kinda' weird, especially when Yuna was just doing her strength training.

Well, we have 2/3 months before the Worlds!
