Basically, I am wondering what's basically up with the word basically

I have a family member who won't quit saying, "beyond." Everything is beyond crowded, beyond cold, beyond expensive, and the list goes on. I want to ask her what her idea of crowded is in relation to beyond crowded, but family tensions are tough enough right now.

^ Our neighbor does the same thing with "kind of/sort of". I know it's just a hesitation filler, but he uses it with verbs, too, which sounds very strange to me.
