I'm so looking forward to both The Borgias and Game of Thrones in 2011. I haven't really picked up any new series this year, although I'm going to give Boardwalk Empire a shot.

Wheee! So glad someone else brought up Game of Thrones! ASOIAF is probably my favorite fanatasy series and I'm very happy HBO picked it up. I shudder to think of a sanitized Disney-style version.

The new trailers for it look great, as do the on-set pictures. Crap captioning aside, of course. Tyrion's 'marauding ways'...give me a break.

As an added bonus, I've liked Nikolaj Coster-Waldau since I saw him in Enigma ages ago and think he makes a very believable Jaime Lannister.

This series is hit before it have been aired.

I just here the protests coming from the Catholic Church. You know the Church does not like it when its popes are protrayed this way.

RJBlue.. I"m a huge Sean Bean fan too. I watched Percy Jackson and the Olympians to see the few scenes he was in.

I was more excited about Game of Thrones (and I'm still super excited because I've read every single book) at first, but I'm getting really excited about this show as well. I'm glad that a lot of high quality cable series are hitting the airwaves. After Six Feet Under went off the air, I was really sad, but we've gotten a ton of great cable drama series and I'm very thankful for that.

Well- the Catholic websites don't really whitewash him. There seems plenty, in that small synopsis of his life, to write quite a lurid miniseries without having to veer even as far from the historical record as The Tudors did.

I'm waiting for someone to do a miniseries about Eleanor of Aquitaine.

THAT would be amazing to see.

I'm so excited for this all. I have indeed been in withdrawal.

Borgia wasn't the only scandalous pope. John XII was so dissolute that his reign was called a "pornocracy" and the two Medici popes who came after Borgia were pretty unsavoury as well. And I'm sure there were others who kept mistresses and put out hits on their political rivals and the like.

I had to stop watching The Tudors -- it was just too cringe-worthy -- but I think the story of the Borgias has a lot of potential. Plus it has Jeremy Irons. Of course being a cable peasant means I'll have to wait that much longer to see it ... but I can be patient when I have to be.

Excited about Game of Thrones too, I loved those books.

Speaking of fantasy series, anyone else wish they'd do a mini-series of The Fionavar Tapestry?

Not Borgias news but another medieval series: Camelot (Michael Hirst is one of the producers)

Eva Green is Morgana, Jamie Campbell Bower is Arthur, Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, and the wonderful James Purefoy as King Lot.

Interesting, considering that Birth of Venus was painted when Lucrezia was about five years old.
