Abt has German ancestry as well, right?

Im not sure but I think I read somewhere that his grandfather or great-grandfather ended up in a St. Petersburg orphanage as a child and was given the last name Abt there or something like that.
So it's quite unclear.

My parents are Russians and also have many friends with German last names like "Fischer" for example but these friends have a Jewish background.

Slightly OT question:

Gerboldt and Enbert somehow don't sound like Russian last names to me. Do they have non-Russian ancestors that settled in Russia?

She (Gerboldt) said her great-grandfather from her father's side was German. He was executed in Stalin's times but her grandfather survived.

Yeah it is. It's my grandmother's maiden name and her family is originally from Silesia. There are a lot of those names in Germany

Regarding Tanja Szewchzenko... I'm not sure where her last names comes from. Her parents are both born in Germany and some years ago I once read that she had Ukrainian roots from her fathers side and is Russian-German from her mothers side but it was later denied by her mother. Interestingly 'Szewczenko' is quite an uncommon spelling in Germany, usually it would be more like 'Schewtschenko'
