Dempsey's goal was actually quite nice (sorry Buzz!). Excellent timing on his part to push that rebound in.

I also have somewhat of a silly question about own goals. From what I could understand, as long as a shot is on target without being touched by a defender, it doesn't count as an own goal. Which is why I am confused by some fans who keep saying this was an own goal by Koscielny. Did the rule change recently?
Well Man U at least won their CL match.

Major Controversy at the USMNT callups today. Jozy Altidore got snubbed, this despite being in great form with his club team. To replace Jozy (and Terrence Boyd) Klinsmann called up the formely disgraced Eddie Johnson from Seattle in MLS and incredibly...Alan Gordon who doesn't even start for San Jose. This is a major snub to Chris Wondolowski, Gordon's teammate, who is coming close to setting the all time goal scoring record for one season in MLS. If that's not good enough to get a call up, what is?? And I'm not just saying that because I played Little League with Wondo's Dad.![]()
Colombia is now leading the South American qualification after a 2-0 defeat of Paraguay!
Falcao scored both goals![]()
England beat San Marino yesterday 5-0, Italy beat Armenia 3-1, Canada beat Cuba 3-0, USA beat Antigua 2-1, Argentina beat Uruguay 3-0, Germany beat Rep. Of Ireland 6-1, Russia beat Portugal 1-0, Spain beat Belarus 4-0.
Several of the Cuban team seems to have defected before the match. It is a shame they put themselves before their team. A real shame. And what s up with that shaky victory by the US against Antigua?!

The USA simply is not that good right now, with or without Donovan's injury. They may make the hex, but there's a decent chance they won't get out of the hex. For all of that, I'll take a 2-1 road win any day. Especially with a 90 minute game winner...
As for the Cubans, they lose players in all sports when the players can get a chance to defect. It's the ultimate comment on the current political system & regime.

Antigua played it smart, a tiny field great for bunkering, and then it poured rain t'o help their cause too. USA was very fortunate to come out with a result.
It wont be easy against Guatamala, even though it will be in front of a sold out crowd in KC's Livestrong Park. The team is hurting at LB and in midfield, and getting inconsistant play from Dempsey and Gomez which is killing the offense.
If this team doesn't find itself but quick, Klinsmann could have one of the shortest coaching tenures in recent memory.
Canada is away to Honduras today and if we go clean we move on. It would be so cool to see Canada qualify for the World Cup. So here's hoping we win and move a step closer to that goal.

Fifteen minutes to go in the game between Portugal and Northern Ireland and NR is still leading Ronaldo & Co 1 - 0!![]()

Postiga scores for the home team! It is now 1–1 but no matter what happens, I think NR has a lot o be proud of.

So much for Canada moving on... We're losing 6-0 o Honduras. How embarrassing.![]()

Honduras 7-1 Canada ( and counting), Northern Ireland 1–1 Portugal, England v Poland was postponed,

USA 3 v 1 Guatemala.
USA gave up an early goal to trail 0-1, then scored 3 in 26 minutes or so ( 1 by Bocanegra & 2 by Dempsey) for the win. A good, solid performance by team USA, especially after the defensive lapse on the early goal.
The USA & Jamaica move on to the hexagonal from the group. Joining them in the hex are: Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, & Panama. If memory serves, the hex begins on Feb 6, 2013 & runs through Oct, 2013.
