One of the best things about my son's travel hockey, believe it or not, is all the time that we have spent over the past seven years driving around. I have an excellent communication relationship with him (he's a high school sophomore now) and I feel that it started back in squirt hockey, driving to and from the rink, and to games farther away.

Next year he will probably play varsity hockey for his high school, he will have his drivers license, and he will drive himself to the late afternoon practices. I will miss our time in the car.

My daughter was a swimmer and so many early mornings were like this...only our water wasn't frozen. I loved weekend meets for the time we spent together, just us, without the rest of the family.
She's off to college now, but we both look back on those days with affection.
