    New Tara article

Has this link been posted yet? I searched but couldn't find any threads about it. I'll just play it safe and post this thread in the Trash Can. It can always get promoted.

    http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/...commentator-10

Many sports fans remember Tara Lipinski as the 15-year-old who shocked the world and won the gold medal for figure skating in the 1998 Winter Olympics. Twelve years later, she’s back in a big way. After spending the better part of the past ten years getting roles in Hollywood, Lipinski has begun a career in commentating. Most recently, she commentated at the 2010 World Figure Skating Championships in March. She spoke with TheCelebrityCafe’s Matt Thompson about her career, the 1998 Olympics and commentating.
TCC: Back to ice-skating. It was heavily criticized after you won at the 1998 Olympics that you retired at such a young age. Do you feel any anger towards this that people made comments?

TL: No, I just realize that they need professional help.

TCC: Do you consider Michelle Kwan your all-time rival?

    TL: Who?

TCC: Do you think you could have won again at the 2002 or 2006 Olympics instead of retiring?

    TL: Dude, of course.

TL: You never want to say that you could win or you can’t. [You never know] what would have happened. I believe the new scoring system would have been in my favor. At the time in 2002, I was still doing triple triples. I don’t know, the competitor in me would love to say yes, but you never know what could have happened.
    ... she had a 3T and a 3S, no 2A, in 2002.

I don't care that she didn't have 3-3s in 2002 since she grew a lot after 1998 like Oksana did after 1994, but why try to be over the top now.

    Meeeee-OWWWW.
We live in an ageist society where everything is based on youth, but I hated being 18. I don't like teenagers any more now than I did then. I'm 49 now and there is no way that I'd go back to my teens and 20s - even if I knew what I know now, I don't want to go through all that again. I found it a very difficult time. - Buzz Osborne of the Melvins

I hope people (especially some of the more...vocal detractors) actually read the interview and not just go by Neptune's quotes,

Yeah, I figured that's what you did when your post changed so abruptly.

Personally, I think it would have been awesome if she'd given those answers!

She's only 28. What did you expect her to look like? Gray haired & wrinkled?

I think Orbitz meant that Tara looks young for her age. If I didn't know she was twenty-eight, I'd probably guess about twenty or so, judging from that picture.

I believe the new scoring system would have been in my favor.
I wonder what she is basing this belief on. Tara had a very notorious flutz and I never recall her doing tons of transitions in her programs when she was competing. She wasn't known for having spectacular spins, spirals, or footwork. Also, her small jumps would not have garnered high GOE marks.

Girl just wants to have fun!

I'll say this for Tara, she seems very up beat and positive and she definitely knows how to put a good spin on things. Definitely.
After spending the better part of the past ten years getting trying to get roles in Hollywood.
Since she apparently has had a total of a dozen roles, I thought that a little editing was in order, just for the sake journalistic honesty.
TCC: Do you have any upcoming things as far as acting?
TL: No, nothing right now. That’s not my main focus, but if anything ever comes up, if I’m lucky enough for an opportunity to do something, I would definitely do it.
So Tara's spent the better part of the past decade "getting roles in Hollywood" but she's moved on now and commentating rather than acting is what she really wants to do (except if an offer of acting gig came up, she would definitely do it). Definitely.

My main goal was [to win] the Olympics. I would have stayed in if it took me another twenty years.
Visions of a 35 year old Tara competing in 2018. Pretty sure that would not be much "fun, fun, fun" for her so I guess it's really a good thing she won in 1998. (I don't think her hip would have held out for half that long, despite her denials about the role injury has played in her leaving skating -- eligible or show.)
