S/Z definitely. In a way, I'm glad they've retired because if they were still competing, it would probably mean that they hadn't won the OG, and I don't think I could've taken it if they were not the champions in Vancouver.
I was formerly only familiar with their more recent performances, but I've checked out some of their older programmes, and I must say that they were wonderful even in 2001 with this SP (their speed was just incredible!):

Sandra Bezic is intolerable as a commentator, but from what I've seen of her work with Chen Lu and S/Z, her skills as a choreographer were first-rate. S/Z might've been better served if they had never made the move to Lori.
Shishkova & Naumov always will always be my sentimental favourites![]()

...many pairs are missing...

LOL,I agree with all of you. I can only fit 12 on the Polls.I also agree with Crazy. I miss Katie and Garrett. As well as G&G. I also miss Jamie Sale and David P.
But something very nice about this poll is that every team gets at least one vote !![]()
Mclaughlin/Brubaker![]()
Other: Mishketunek & Dimitiriev
How could they have been left off this list?
Vainly hoping for Khokhlova/Volobuev
Hey, I actually liked them. The choreography that Moskvina did for them was amazing. Actually the last really good stuff she's done. I also miss Obertas & Slavnov from their one or two seasons that they were good.
This poll is obviously very North American centric, but I like it, it reminded me of a lot of pairs I do miss but wouldn't necessarily remember to put on my lists... Orscher & Lucash, Hinzmann & Parchem, Stieglers were all really good.
My faves list would be B&S, M&D, K&D, Valova & Vassiliev, Selezneva & Makarov, Abitbol & Bernadis, T&M, Shishkova & Naumov.
I've always regretted that Stephenie Kalsalvitch (sp?) couldn't "make the butterflies fly in formation," and left the sport.
She and Parchem had such amazing lines - one of those pairs with dance "benefits."
Hinzman and Parchem were a bit too gymnastic for my tastes.
I also miss D&V, Roca & Sur skating amateur or pros, and just about every Russian pairs or dance team of the 90's.
Elena and Anton they should have won 2001 world too soooooooo gorgeous.
PetTiks.![]()
Odd list to leave out so many fan favs... My vote goes to Elena & Anton, who I miss more and more every season. Honorable mention to the glorious M&D. Those were the days!![]()
Berezhnaya-Sikharulidze (that seems like a glaring omission from the list, since G&G are on it- meaning it's not just American pairs)
Also Mishkutionok-Dmitriev
Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze and Miskutienok & Dmitriev most of all. Also Bechke & Petrov and Underhill & Martini. I actually miss Totmianina & Marinin, and wish I could see them skate as pros more.
I dont miss Shen & Zhou one bit. I sort of liked them (though I wasnt a huge fan) but they were becoming so overrated I am now just glad they are gone for good.
I just noticed the poll options. Hilarious. I have never heard of 4 or 5 of the pairs or knew they even existed (some of them were probably junior pairs who had mediocre junior careers then split up).
And some of the ones included like Orscher & Lucash and the Stieglers I am quite relieved to not have taking up my viewing time when watching skating when I already have to put up with those darn commercials as it is. They atleast make me appreciate the commericals more though.
