So sudden, sad, and beyond our understanding. My deepest condolences to Tamar Katz, and her family. During this time of sorrow, may fond memories sustain Ronen Katz’ family and friends.

What a bright and shining light … His good works and his memory will live on, and surely be a continuing source of inspiration to everyone he touched.
The pain and loss are so difficult to bear. Many years ago I knew someone who died at age 15, struck by a drunk driver the summer before he would have entered high school. I lost a parent too when I was a teenager. In recent years I have also lost loved ones. The pain doesn’t lessen, but time does heal in its way.
Words are so inadequate at a time like this, but may these thoughtful reflections bring some measure of comfort:
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
~From a headstone in Ireland
To live in hearts we leave behind
Is not to die.
~Thomas Campbell, Hallowed Ground
We must embrace pain and burn it as fuel for our journey.
Life is eternal, and love is immortal,
and death is only a horizon;
and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
~Rossiter Worthington Raymond
He kept at true good humour's mark …
He never made a brow look dark,
Nor caused a tear, but when he died.
~Thomas Love Peacock
Tears are God’s gift to us. Our holy water. They heal us as they flow.
~Rita Schiano, Sweet Bitter Love, 1997
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.
If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
When he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heav'n so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.
Oh my, that is very very sad !
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

UPDATE over one year (15 months) later...
"Brooklyn Woman Gets 60 Days For Fatal Hit-And-Run": http://gothamist.com/2012/01/04/broo...ys_for_fat.php
Reportedly the Katz family never asked for felony charges to be filed.
Tamar is now an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania (also her brother's alma mater) and recently skated in a holiday show on her campus' rink: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showthread.php?t=81790

Truly my condolences to the Katz family.
It's nice to see that Tamar is still skating in some capacity. She has some lovely skills and it's good to see her back on the ice.
"I miss footwork that has any kind of a discernible pattern. The goal of a step sequence should not be for a skater to show the same ice coverage as a Zamboni and take about as much time as an ice resurface. " ~ Zemgirl, reflecting on a pre-IJS straight line sequence
