I love this.
IMO, so much more appropriate than a 'personal' page that accepts thousands of people that the skater obviously doesn't know.

Much more appropriate! Skaters like Evan, Jeremy, Johnny and Rachael have really done a lot to make their fan pages very personal, giving fans an "inside track", without allowing fans to be overly creepy.
