    Lady Gaga's Meat Dress Shoot

I found this fascinating that it's a controversy--particularly since it's been done before by Canadian artist Jana Sterbak--who did it for far more interesting reasons at the time rather than just for a media spectacle.

Although, I guess, PETA didn't have as profound a presence in 1987 as it does now.

    I'm saying this as a fan -

I think she needs to step back from the spotlight before she oversaturates the media and everyone gets tired of her. Let us salivate for a while over the pending release of an upcoming album/film or something.

Madonna did/does this to great effect.

A living creature died so that someone could eat or be kept warm not cover Lady Blah Blah's lady parts. Seeing this annoys me, what a waste of life.

Yuck. I do like Lady Gaga and find her talented, but I wish she did not have to resort to cheap shock value so often. I also think she is largely derivative of Madonna.

And "apparently" derivative of some woman's daughter that she wrote music for, who committed suicide. http://gothamist.com/2010/09/10/gaga_7.php

The title, though not the specifics, remind me of Carolee Schneeman's Meat Joy from 1964

Yes, every generation of adolescents has a figure like this. They find the mediocre music and "shocking" behavior exciting. It is normal development for adolescents to try on new identities (costumes) and consider issues of sexual identity. To an adult, the racy costumes and pseudosexual behaviors are not much different than when a two year old discovers it is fun to pull off the clothes and run around naked. It gets old and boring real quick.

Agree that Gaga's interpretation of this one is just for media, and it's been done better.

As for he Madonna comparisons . . . it's inevitable I guess. Any female pop star coming after Madonna is going to be compared to her in the way they market themselves.

But there are some things I think Gaga does WAY better than Madonna. Mainly 1) she's an actual musician, and has some serious skills in that area, 2) she's not willing to go ugly. What I mean is, Madonna will never do anything that makes her look ugly, fat, bad, unflattering, etc. Gaga to me is more fearless than Madge since she's willing to go those places that Madge didn't.

But of course, Gaga wouldn't exist without Madge. So . . .
In my spare time, I like to interview figure skating legends.

I would go further and say that Gaga's image is different.

I agree with you. Madonna was all about sexuality and always made that front and center to her music, videos, etc. She always looked alluring. Even when Madonna went 'too far', it was all about sex

To me, Gaga is not really interested in allure. She just wants to transmit whatever is going thru her mind. Like you said, even if it's not that attractive. Some would call it 'weird' or 'strange', so that is why I think she's different.

She also seems more interested in straightforward rock n roll than M. I facebooked her and saw some interesting photos with KISS recently

FTR, both Madonna and Gaga have been very complimentary towards eachother.

Untrue. Madge has been on many "Worst Dressed" lists .

I don't know if it's a case of Gaga willing to go "ugly". I bet she thinks everything she put on is fabulous on her.

I don't think Madonna was ever willingly 'worst dressed' though. She just didn't dress well at one time.

Oh so clever Gaga, "beef drapery/curtains", we get it.

The Jackass guys did this in the 90s, and better. Not only did they have a meat suit, but they put themselves over a barbecue pit (there was a flame-retardant suit underneath) and ate the results after.

Too bad we can't put Gaga on a spit and stick a fork in her because she's pretty much done.
