Update from Phil Hersh:
Clarifying his situation in a Thursday morning interview with the Tribune, Olympic figure skating champion Evan Lysacek said he will not compete any more in 2010 but left open the possibility of skating at the 2011 U.S. Championships and trying for the 2014 Olympics.
Not very surprising news, but thanks for posting.
My Life Would Suck Without FS-You
I'm not surprised. I also think he won't come back.
So very Sasha Cohen of him.
The official USFS press release is now published online: 2010 Olympic Champion Evan Lysacek Not Competing for Remainder of 2010
However...
Guess he registered by the Sept. 1st USFS qualifying season deadline. He has not ruled out competing at the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Jan. 22-30 in Greensboro, N.C.![]()
I definitely don't expect to see Evan competing at 2011 Nationals, and would be very surprised to ever see him compete again at all.
Totally not shocked. I would have been really surprised to see him compete this year. Not that he had GPs; it would have just been Nationals/Worlds.
Wise decision. Though I doubt we'll see him back, I would not rule out the possibility. Evan seems to be the type who enjoys rigorous routine and structure- he might miss it and decide to train again.
OMG an american olympic gold medatlist is not continuing? Well there is just no precedent! LOL LOL!
Thats old news. He already said he wasn't doing Grand Prix this year.
Ahh....who might we be referring to here? *cough a certain football player cough*
Meh.
You win an Olympic medal, go see if you can make money off of it and when the money and opportunities run dry you return to skating if your body will let you and you feel like you can dedicate yourself to the training.
The situation's not complicated to decipher and is the path for a lot of skaters.
I think we'll see him back. He's cool with training hard and he'll grow weary of life on the D-List. I don't see him coaching or doing choreo either.
