I actually posted about this because it occured in my hometown. It was promotion for the Gymnastics and Skating Spectacular that will take place in the Allen Even center in Allen TX on October 3.

My post is here. In that post is a small review, pictures, and two links from Allen ISD... he spoke at two elementary schools in the Allen area. He also spoke at some middle schools in McKinney area.

Wasn't it Kerri Strugg who was also a skater (recreationally, but very good), or was able to switch after her competitive gymnastics career was over? Or am I imagining this?

I think you're imagining it, or you might be remembering that she mad appearances with Ice Capades. From what I understood, she was doing gymnastics in those shows, which included off-ice acrobatics in addition to skating. I don't believe she ever skated.

I remember seeing an inside edition clip with Shannon Miller taking skating lessons. She was doing some small jumps, and remarked that it was wierd to keep her knees soft after a lifetime of keeping her lets totally extended.

I love you, Johnny. I wish you were World and Olympic champion as well, and I still don't know what happened with Evan's twitter and how I'd feel about him if he *was* directly involved, but I won't stoop to childish name calling on message boards and blogs to defend you. You can and will do that on your own because you are a grown man.
And more so, TwitterGate2010 is such old news! LOL

And I'm sure once the denial phase wears off, Plushenco will accept that he was soundly beating in Vancouver, banned (still can't believe it...what a way to end an amateur career. smh) from future ISU competitions, and move on with his life. So why would anyone waste time being bitter about that? LOL

Maybe you are thinking about Tabitha Yim? She competed in both, but eventually chose gymnastics over skating.

From the comments of you guys (which I read before watching) I thought Liukin was gliding on her own while doing the spiral, and I was a bit surprised, cause that would have been good.
But she's only hitting the position while she's been dragged around. And that position she can hit on drugs, at 30 below zero.

I think any gymnast would be surprisingly good on skates if she gave it a serious try. It's their training. Gymnasts are incredibly stronger and more flexible than skaters.
Usually, when a gymnast kid quits and turns to ice skating, in the first couple of years she catches up with the girls of her same age, which have been skating longer. Coaches and parents start considering the kid a natural and they get frustrated when progresses slow down. Which happens because eventually the kid loses the gymnastic fitness.
