Rank the Mens Olympic medal winning long programs from 1992 to 2010

How would you rank the mens Olympic medal winning LPs from 1992 to 2010. Here would be mine:

1. Alexei Yagudin 2002 gold - do I really need to say anything.

2. Evgeny Plushenko 2006 gold- technical merit would be too strong for the others, whether you like the overall package much or not.

3. Ilia Kulik 1998 gold- beautiful amazing jumps and great style. Spins were the only iffy area, a few too many posing sections, and guys would later be doing multiple quads. Still an amazing skater, great to see him finally put it together.

4. Evgeny Plushenko 2002 gold- very strong performance inspite of a few small mistakes. Again technically nearly unmatchable outside a few noteables.

5. Tim Goebel- just because of the 3 quads, which is an amazing athletic feat.

6. Stephane Lambiel- I probably overrank him but I loved his skating. Anyway he skated far worse in 2010 and nearly medaled and was only 5 points from winning the LP against a field now lacking anything close to a prime Plushenko.

7-9. Takahashi-Plushenko-Lysacek 2010 podium- since I dont feel like arguing this again. Only will say if Takahashi didnt fall on the quad he was planets above the other 2 this year whether the judges would have recognized it or not.

10. Jeff Buttle 2006 bronze- I know he beat Lambiel in the LP phase in 2006 but he shouldnt have.

11. Alexei Urmanov 1994 gold- I actually agreed with his victory this year. Beautiful and effortless jumps and very strong presentation. Spins and footwork make him inferior to the 2006 and 2010 podium.

12. Elvis Stojko 1994 silver- a much debated runner up to Urmanov in 94. Personally I think the overall level of the two were quite close this year.

13. Elvis Stojko 1998 silver- a very gutsy performance and very strong technically inspite of the his handicapt.

14. Victor Petrenko 1992 gold- not great but was the rightful winner that night.

15. Philipe Candelero 1994 bronze- if he hadnt botched that 2nd triple axel planned near the end he might have won that night. Wonderfully inventive program but his skating is full of technique and stylistic flaws all the same.

16. Paul Wylie 1992 silver- great artistry but technically he isnt that strong for a top level skater even on a decent day.

17. Philipe Candelero 1998 bronze- lucky medal really.

18. Petr Barna 1992 bronze- bad program for him well below his artistic potential, and a bad performance to it that night.

I rate only the gold medal performers and they are in the order of how much I appreciated the lp programme, interpretation and the skater´s skating style and person on the ice:

But Takahasi did fall on the quad. One can naturally have futile opinions about if´s such as if pigs had wings, they would fly....

1. Alexei Yagudin 2002 gold (what a gorgeous man, no one has since come close to his skating, athletic huge jumps with artistry that combines masculinity with beautiful heart and soul, saw him live he's just amazing)

2. Ilia Kulik 1998 gold (lol at the shirt but as he said the shirt won, he was flawless)

3. Evgeny Plushenko 2006 gold (jumps were on like a robot and he had his usual passion)

4. Evgeny Plushenko 2002 silver

5. Evan Lysacek 2010 gold (flawless except the few tech probs, great footwork)

6. Evgeny Plushenko 2010 silver (amazing for his age and to comeback after being heavier the year or so before, he should write a weight loss book)

7. Philipe Candelero 1998 bronze (will never forget that footwork and that performance)

8. Elvis Stojko 1994 silver

10. Tim Goebel 2002 bronze (amazing jumper and loved his innocence in his skating, that suit and his style reminded me a lot of the skaters in the early 1990s and my fav Dick Button)

11. Victor Petrenko 1992 gold (high jumper, good program even though it was used over and over)

12. Alexei Urmanov 1994 gold (didn't like his spins but good jumper)

13. Daisuke Takahashi 2010 bronze (he's not my fav, don't really get the hype over him but he's ok, program was just kind of boring to me but he landed most of the jumps nicely)

14. Stephane Lambiel 2006 silver (the zebra costume was really funny, amazing spins)

15. Paul Wylie 1992 silver (great jumps)

... the field. But, in all seriousness, huge congrats to all of them! All well-deserved.

Looking at these Oly medal winners huddled together, it's stark realization that Olympics really have been rough on the boys' free performances. The strain of the moment mitigating itself via performance sapping nerves/tightness. (Exceptions, of course, including Wyle, Candeloro (twice), and Goebel, who each had career days.) Thinking that a much more bountiful crop of "all-time" medal winning FS performances can be found in the Worlds category.

It would have been interesting to see how Lambiel and Buttle's LPs in 2006 would have scored in 2010 with the constantly escalated scoring (plus elevated base points for some jumps). I am pretty sure Plushenko's 2006 LP would have easily scored over 180 points had it been done in 2010 as much as some fans would have gone into a rage about it.
