I loved them, too. They were really great! I hope they're not hurt by Shavar's edit in the finals.

Before them (07) was "new disco" (AKA Lady GaGa-style disco) with Jesse and Julia. They were interesting, but I'm not a Lady Gaga fan. The judges seemed to like it, but I sensed that they were overly pushing it because of the "new genre" factor.

    Jesse = from Ontario, contemporary
Julia = ballroom dancer from Alberta(?) -- when she became pregnant, she was told she wouldn't be able to dance professionally (and her son is adorable!)

Nathalie Heath, 23, a contemporary dancer and Mackenzie Green, 20, a contemporary dancer- Viennese Waltz- They danced to a Hedley song. A really pretty pairing. I want to see more waltzing when they pull this dance, because I love the rise and fall, but I think they did this very well.

Bree Wasylenko, 22, a contemporary dancer and Edgar Gilbert-Reyes, 21, a hip-hop dancer. Judges went crazy over this dance, and it was my least favourite of the night. Hip Hop to OMG. Blah.

Hani Abaza, 26, a modern contemporary dancer and someone substituting- OMG what happened to Nico- bloated. Tara Jean- nice. Hani's faces are as bad as Kent's and his legs are too short. Really nice number though.

It's all over in eastern Canada. It was pretty good for a first week. Nothing WOWED me, but there was no Tyce so they were all good.

Denys, Shavar,Julia, Jannick, Khloe, Sebastien are the ones I remember the most.

I didn't like Bree and Edgar, and Charlene Hart and Jeff Mortensen's Jive was disappointing.

It just started here and OMGOSH what's going to bug the crap out of me is if the judges don't bother to critique the dancers again this year...

Claudia and Jonni, um PEOPLE! They had like an entire part of the dance where Claude messed up on the timing and they covered somewhat well, but if *I* freakin' noticed it, why didn't THEY the judges see it?

Jonni, was quite hot and he was just a natural on the stage. Like him.

Kirsten and Jera....not quite impressed. They were all right. It would have been nice if they just got really into the dance. You just see them going through the steps and not just dancing.

Denys and Breanne - Denys was great. He's right in his element. Breanne wasn't as confident. Her upper body was kind of a mess durig the dance. SHe did not have great posture when she was just standing there looking smouldering into Denys' eyes.

Jeff and Charlene - jive was a little slow...They needed just a little more energy. The lift was an oopsie. I figured they'd have more energy than that.

Sebastian/Danielle: That was a hot slow mess!! The choreographer was horrible in that it was slow and painful. Whoever made the contemporary clothing choice made it even worse. Sebastian did not feel like he was the guy chasing the girl. He felt like he was playing somewhat the girl role himself. It may have been whoever made the choice for him to tie his shirt in like a halter like way. The spins an transitions were slow and meticulous. It was not like they went at it with any attack at all.

I love Danielle, and like Sebastian, but this was a horrible performance.

Watcing it a second time it didn't seem so bad. So I think it just may have been the choreo and outfits.

Jesse/Julia: I liked Jesse a lot. This was another 'Canadian disco' I'm assuming, which usually tends not to be a disco at all - that bugs the crap out of me. Julia was pretty decent, though I'm not understanding why people have an issue with wearig actual clothing and have it not be just abou the sex appeal of the dancers. I want to see them dancing most of all. I think Julia had the most horrible leg line and ugliest position (not sure what the choreographers were thinking) when her legs were split V...just bad. Jesse was yum though

Shavar/Jannick: They were pretty good. They danced all out which I can appreciate.

I ccan't get through on the voting lines. So not sure if I'll even get a vote in.

I enjoyed tonight's show - but it is always a bit jarring to go from watching the very top finale dancers from the US version (not to mention the all stars!) to the top 20 of the Canadian show. Add to that - it was only the top 10 in the US version and that the dancers grow between the beginning and end of the season and the difference in quality between their season end and the Canadian show's beginning is large.

I quite liked the last jazz piece (and yay for seeing Tara jean again!) and the Afro Jazz piece and I enjoyed seeing salsa with 2 ballroom dancers.

Not so much - "new disco" Sort of like new Coke if you ask me.

Oh - and on another note. I was trying to figure out where I recognized Sebastien from. He is actually on a training video for the Canadian Improv Games! His high school improvised in the style of contemporary dance with him leading the way!

Lastly - Wow! The choreographer of Fela is doing tomorrow's opening number!

Don't the judges always go easy the first week though? Even in the US S7 which just finished, they were pretty mellow and complementary for the first week.

Oh, my. I was just reminded tonight, why I can't stand Mary. If she'd just stick to constructive ballroom critique, she'd be just fine, but her screeching and hollering really bug me to no end.

It's too soon for me to make any real decisions on the couples. There were several that I really liked but nothing yet with the Wow factor and no one was a train wreck. I think my favorite routine was Shavar's & Janick's. I also enjoyed the fact that these contestants have a maturity about them.

So glad they kept the smaller stage. I wish Nigel would get a clue about the difference it makes for us television viewers and go back to a smaller stage.

Tara Jean makes me feel happy just watching her dance.

Product placement was driving me crazy... how many different products did they brazenly shill over the course of the night? Aquafina, pens, Degree, Lise Watier, and it kept going from there. It really started to bug me. If it's going to be on that late, I'm going to have to skip voting, and just tape it and fast forward. Ugh.

Hani is gone for the men. I'm not surprised. He was one of the few that I could really name things I didn't enjoy about their dancing. The fact that Shalaina is injured and out of the contest is probably what sealed his fate.

I guess a lot of other people didn't like Bree and Edgar, and I'm not surprised they are there. But Julia and Jesse being in the bottom was a bit of a surprise.

I loved Julia's solo. She does a really entertaining job for a solo ballroom.

Julia's solo was great. I was impressed!

The "new disco" dance was meh for me, so they were one of the couples I wouldn't have voted for had I not forgotten to vote.

I'm kicking myself because I was going to vote for Hani. Someone had to go, though, and Jeff was the only obvious guy (because of the error in his dance and because the judges warned him not to depend too much on the tricks).

WTH? Why weren't the jive and the bollywood numbers in the bottom with the new disco?

Top 20 (or in this case 22) is generally too soon for me to be invested in voting, but I kind of regret not doing so last night. Maybe people assumed Bree, Edgar & Hani wouldn't be in the bottom 3 and so threw their votes to the others they thought were in trouble? I admit I'm confused as to the result.

I wish Canada had an introduction to the top 20 and no voting for that so that we got a bit more time to become familiar with those who weren't given much airtime in the auditions. It would level out the playing field a bit. They should either do that or let the first week be a non-elimination.

Guess I'd better vote next week when I enjoy a performance.

    I do agree with this!

The other thing that seems to be very unfair is that all the other dance couples had the fans of 2 dancers voting for them - but Hani only had himself! So that would theoretically only give him half as many votes if he were getting the average number.

    Not fair!

I totally agree wit both of these statements. And I also think that they still haven't done enough to offer the same amount of TV coverage of all the dancers.

I didn't like the Bollywood number and thought the Jive should have been in the bottom. For me I feel bad about the dancers in the Bollywood number because I thought it was terrible choreography and didn't show off their abilities as dancers as at all. I thought they handled the character of the dance well though

Also does anyone think Danielle reminds them of Meryl Davis a bit?

My satellite internet is nearly dead- about 10X slower than dial-up. I went to post a couple of times last night, and the post was lost, so I gave up.

Stacey's choreo last night was better than any she did on the american edition. And the number wtih Denys and Amanda and that new choreographer (?) was really good too.

I also liked the Paso Doble that Mia hated.

The Krump with Jannick was one of the most disappointing to me. Which of them was off the beat, because they were out of synch more than they were in.

I thought Stacey's choreography last night was very, very good, but I didn't think it was quite as good as the Mad World piece she did with Ade and Billy and the first piece she did on the show to music from Once (Karla and Jonathan, I think?). I thought Charlene was stunning, but Jeff was a little absent to me, even though I know he was doing a ton of partnering work and supporting her.

That dance was my biggest disappointment, too. Jannick was one of my standout faves the first week but this performance was unengaging completely. I threw them some pity votes since I'd like to see Jannick again.

Loved loved LOVED the theatre piece--and the fact that it was called 'theatre' instead of broadway!

I don't know what to think about this season so far. Yes, I know that it's still the beginning of the season, but for me the dancing seems kind of messy. Maybe it's that we had such a good run from the US edition this past season.

I'm really hating this flowery judging panel. Although Mia kinda was nice, I really welcomed her critical comments.
