3D TVs - how are they?

Anyone preview/test or even bought a 3D TV yet?

What's your take on the adoption rate and chance for success of this new brand of televisions?

I had no idea 3D television existed!

I once watched a 3D movie at the cinema. I hated it. The movie also didn't help.

First thing that came to mind: expensive.

I can't see how this will become mainstream, especially considering the economy. Not everyone can splurge thousands of dollars (and $150 per pair of 3-D glasses) for a TV now.

I read once that there was a risk the TVs could cause eye strain or even epileptic seizures I don't even enjoy 3-D at the movies, so it's a meh from me.

It is a marketing gimmick and needs to be treated as such.

I tried it in Futureshop. They had the entire set-up, the horribly expensive glasses, the 3d movie playing, had the look of a 3d movie without the glasses, didn't notice anything near the 3d effects that we now see in the theatre once I put the glasses on.

    Big failure imo.

I got to see one at a local store and it seemed distorted.

    Totally unnecessary.

Best Buys have them on display. You have to wear stupid 3-D glasses. That would immediately take the enjoyment away from me. I don't see it catching on.

Were you wearing the glasses? Because if you don't, then the picture is very unclear.

I saw a 3D movie and loved the movie...but hated wearing the stupid glasses and had sore eyes after it. I don't think it will have a big future in its current form.
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching.

Yup...it just seems to lose something when not on a big screen.

And I also hate that you have to wear glasses to watch TV.
