it's a real shame that such a tragedy happened and closed the rich history of Love Parade as a happy music event, uniting people from all over the world. the decision was made never to organise it again, to honour the memory of the victims...

Latest news (on TV) are saying that the organization knew that the space wasn't large enough to host all those people. I think they said it was fit for 250,000 and they knew that at least 500,000 would attend. The fire rescue already cut fences along the area because of the many people.
They didn't cancel the event because they feared it would hurt Duisburg's image.
Whoever was in charge of it was deliberately putting people in danger!!

It's rather strange to gather an uncontrollable amount of people in a nearly enclosed site.
Duisburg has 500 000 inhabitants. I'd think it probably doesn't have the structures to receive so many people.

More shocking news: the organization refused to install the cameras which are actually a must so police can observe and immediately know where to go when something happens, so things like that are avoided. However, the organization found it too expensive.
The most devastating thing is that if anything, they'll be sued for negligent homicide or something, certainly not murder. Might even come to manslaughter and in Germany that's worth close to nothing. You're out again before you know it. It sucks!!

ITA. I've been to Duisburg a couple of years ago and the city did not struck me as a place to host a techno party with multiple hundreds of thousands people...
