Tonya Harding remarrying!

Well it turns out the press is kind of late with this..

Tonya had already gotten married over the weekend...

Here's a statment frome her agent Linda Lewis..

On Saturday afternoon, June 26th 2010, Tonya was married in a small, beautiful ceremony, to a wonderful man, Joe Price. The private ceremony took place at a very lovely, remote location up in the hills, in an area in WA state. It was attended by close friends and family. Tonya said that they are both very much in love, and that this is a dream come true for her.

IIRC, Linda Lewis is a longtime friend of Tonya's (I think Tonya even called her an "adopted mother") who is one of the only people who has stuck by Tonya through her ups and downs. I think she used to run Tonya's fan club, maybe still does. Guess she was an avialable and willing "agent."

And Orlean tells the story about how, a few weeks after the story ran, she received an anonymous package in the mail, which had no letter or note in it but did have several sets of false fingernails

Well, I never met Tonya so I have no idea whether I would like her. I expect not. But I liked her skating quite a lot.

She was married to Jeff, then some other guy, because I remember seeing footage of her "trying to hide" from the media on her way to the reception, so I'm pretty sure this is #3. Third times the charm, they say. She's had a tough life, so I think I'm going to side with the "wish her well" crowd. Maybe she deserves a little happiness.

Tonya is a regular on Tru-TV's "World's Dumbest." They show footage of dumb criminals, dumb drivers, dumb drunks, etc. while Tonya and a dozen or so other celebs (most of whom are either comedians or ex-child stars) make snarky comments. She would probably need an agent to do the contract for that show. I don't think she looks bad-- comparing her to my high school classmates' Facebook profile pics, I'd say Tonya is very normal looking for her age.

Tonya just got married and it's off-season for skating, so of course there are more news stories about Tonya. If you'd done the same search during Nationals, you'd have seen more stories about Sasha, and if you'd have done the search during the Olympics, you'd have seen more stories about Rachel.

Well I personally wish her some happiness...long overdue IMHO. Some people need to get over what happened almost 20 years ago.

Here's the thing, though. Later that year, Tonya had a falling out with the fan club president, Elaine Stamm. Apparently they were closing the fan club and Stamm wanted to donate the money that was left over to a charity, but Tonya wanted it for herself. Anyway, they stopped speaking after that.

Concerning Tonya's marriage, I wish her the best in life, but if she hasn't sorted out her personal problems, I have a hard time believing that this relationship will fare any better than previous ones.
