More articles on the Award, his plan and coming up exhibitions, and the film "Rise":

Lysacek to receive the prestigious Thurman Munson Award

Olympic Gold Medal winning men’s figure skater Evan Lysacek, the first American to capture the single’s crown since 1988, will be honored with the prestigious Thurman Munson Award at the 31st annual Thurman Munson Awards Dinner on Tuesday night, February 1, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City, it was announced today. ... The gala benefits the AHRC-New York City Foundation, and remembers the late, great Yankees catcher and captain.

For tickets and information on the Munson Awards Dinner contact 212-249-6188.
RISE official selection at Palm Springs film festival

U.S. Figure Skating announced today that the cinematic feature RISE has been named an “Official Selection” at the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF). The film festival, one of the largest in North America with more than 130,000 attendees, will take place Jan. 6-17, in Palm Springs, Calif.
The Feb. 17 live red-carpet event will also feature uniquely choreographed figure skating performances, including a piece by 2010 Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek; interviews with RISE storytellers; and appearances by other American figure skating legends broadcast to movie theaters nationwide.
Proceeds from RISE will be used to further the mission of U.S. Figure Skating’s Memorial Fund, which was established Feb. 23, 1961, as a living tribute to the 34 athletes, officials, judges, coaches and family members who lost their lives in the crash. The Memorial Fund awards approximately $300,000 annually in grants and scholarships to skaters in need, recognizing excellence both on and off the ice.
Stars on Ice' keeps Olympic champ out of nationals; Lysacek keeping future options 'open'

Lysacek left open the possibility of returning for nationals when he announced he was skipping the Grand Prix season. But he's the headliner for the "Stars on Ice" 25th anniversary tour, which starts Feb. 18 in San Jose, and said Tuesday that will keep him from competing the rest of the season.
Lysacek to skate at Nationals (exhibition)

Evan Lysacek, the first U.S. man to win the Olympic title since Brian Boitano in 1988, will be at nationals to promote "RISE," U.S. Figure Skating's movie on the 1961 plane crash that killed the entire U.S. world team. He'll also skate in the Jan. 30 exhibition.
"A lot of opportunities come to everyone, and it's picking and choosing what's right for your own path," Lysacek added. "That's where I've had to learn and be a little smarter this year, because there are more decisions to make."
"If I have the option of getting two extra hours of sleep or training, I'll choose training every time," he said. "That's just a good sign I still really love it."

As I said in the other thread, I'm not surprised that he won't be competing, but I'll miss him anyhow. Interesting that he's skating in the exhibition -- I'm definitely looking forward to that (assuming they show it on TV).

    ^ Thx guys!

Just updated the schedule on this page. A few more events are added.

Evan and Shizuka Arakawa will open CitiBank Ice Rink in Tokyo on Jan. 6 (at Japanese time 11:30am). It's the largest outdoor public skating rink in Tokyo. He'll also attend "Billboard Live" later of the day.

Thank you for updating the schedule! However, I think that the Munson Award dinner is Feb. 1st instead of Feb. 10th.

Palm Springs premiere tells skaters' stories

They will attend Saturday's screening, along with coach Frank Carroll, who lives in Palm Springs and had been coached by crash victim Maribel Vinson-Owen before her death, and 1968 Olympian Peggy Fleming, who is the lead storyteller for sisters Stephanie and Sharon Westerfield in the film.
"Rise" will be beamed to 500 movie theaters by Fathom Entertainment on Feb. 17. Matt Lauer will host the event in New York City, and 2010 Olympic gold medal winner Evan Lysacek, will perform. Proceeds will benefit the U.S. Figure Skating's Memorial Fund, founded after the 1961 crash.
