It would've been hard for me to focus too if I was subjected to judging 80+ hideous gowns.

I remember he used to say that he had dated MANY girls including models, students, actors... so maybe now he just doesn't need one badly

There is a time for everything, LOL. In Olympic season he concentrated on skating and now Evan seems to have an extremely busy schedule as the Olympic champion. I´m sure a time for a girl friend wil be found in near future.

Evan has no assignments for the Grand Prix series. He hasn't announced his plans for Nationals, but without competing at Nationals, I don't know if he can compete at Worlds unless the Olympic Champ gets a bye. He is still dealing with the foot injury, which limits the jumps he can do. He has not been training and is going to appear in BWAT shows in Canada in Oct. If he were going to compete, I think he would be training. I miss him skating too, but he will be doing two Disson shows which will be televised and he will be appearing with Stars on Ice. Check his website for dates of appearances, shows. Those are the dates that are official.

I don't know if you were kidding, but that ain't gonna happen, not even for the USFSA's precious. Every other competitor and said competitor's families and fans would be in a rightful uproar if something like that were ever allowed to happen. Olympic champs/medalists can get byes to compete at their National championships, but to bypass Nats without good reason and go directly to Worlds is another matter entirely. You have to earn your spot on the World team unless there is a proven justification for not being allowed to compete at Nationals, such as a medical bye, and the USFSA selection committee then has to meet and choose whether said proposal should be validated or not for a skater(s) given his/her/their circumstances.

Evan News update from Allen, TX <3

Apparently Evan went to two elementary schools today in Allen and spoke to the kids. He also went to some middle schools in McKinney (nearby).

Article from the Allen ISD website: http://allenisd.org/allenisd/cwp/view.asp?A=3&Q=323851
Anderson Elementary has some pics of Evan and his assembly on the main page. http://www.allenisd.org/andersones/site/default.asp

My nephew almost went to Chandler because his house is near that school. Instead we had him go to the one in my neighborhood for transportation purposes and such. Darn.

Can't find anything on the McKinney middle school websites, will look later.

I watched Evan skate with the kids at the Allen ice rink. He was 20 minutes late getting on the ice, I think it was because when he came out to get on the ice, he was hoarded. He skated with the kids for 20 minutes, then got off and did an interview. He was supposed to teach Nastia Liukin how to skate, but I left at 4:45 to get my place in line for the meet and greet, as did alot of other people. I waited in line outside (why they held this meet and greet outside is beyond me) for 45 minutes in 99 degree heat. Evan was late to that too, but most likely because he was behind from the 20 minute late start earlier. He was very gracious and spoke with everyone. However, there was an older lady there and she was pretty bitchy. He was taking pics with the fans with his medal and she got very angry at the people who were after me getting a pic with him and yelled to someone "I TOLD YOU WE WEREN'T GONNA DO THIS!"... I don't understand why he would be allowed all the other times to have hi medal in pics and not now. Lucky for me I got a 2nd pic with Evan and his Olympic gold.

I'll have to upload my pics and two videos later on. Here's what I have for now.

ryanbfan, thanks for the update and sharing your photos! Glad you had a good time!! I went to an Evan meet n' greet a couple of months ago in NYC, and there were some bitchy people there too, trying to shortchange the fans' time with Evan in the interests of moving the line along (even though the line wasn't particularly long). But Evan was nice and took photos with everyone who asked. One girl (not me) brazenly sat on his lap, the hussy

I'm glad you got to go, ryanbfan! Not as fun as our LA meet and greet, though, huh?

I don't think I shared my photo from that, actually, so here it is. I look horrible but it's not as bad when Evan took a picture with me at Worlds last year. And this is ryanbfan fondling the gold medal.

Sorry to have offended you with my ignorance, but I clearly did not know the ruling. I figured that Evan would have to compete at Nationals to qualify for Worlds, but the other thought just struck me. However, skaters can bypass Nationals for medical reasons (as Belbin and Agosto did in 2009) and apply for a bye to Worlds. They had to demonstrate before a committee of judges three weeks before Worlds that they were in condition to be able to compete. Michele Kwan had to do the same to be named to the Olympic team in 2006.

I believe all of Team USA are precious to USFS, not just Evan.

No Lanie it wasn't! Barely got 3 minutes with Evan (not complaining) and it was too hot. The LA meet and greet was much more personable, but oh well. It's pretty cool he still came and talked with all the kids at the elementary schools and stuff, what a champ

I'll get on to uploading pics and videos now!

Thanks, ryanbfan and Lanie! I loved the pictures. Hope he comes over to my neck of the woods again sometime.

An official press release is reportedly due out today from US Figure Skating, but according to Icenetwork:
Evan Lysacek will take at least a year off from competition.

The Olympic gold medalist made the announcement during a video interview with Nastia Liukin on UniversalSports.com.

"This year, my schedule is so full it would have been impossible for me to compete," Lysacek told Liukin. "I'm definitely looking at Sochi [the 2014 Olympics] as a possibility and thinking about maybe coming back into competition next year."
The link to this video interview was posted in GSD yesterday: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/show...44&postcount=9
