Rhythm Nation with a little Vogue and Like a Prayer mixed in for shock value.

    OK. I saw it.

Would it be weird of me to say she looks like a blonde Alissa Czisny when she has the hood on?

All that video needed was a dominatrix midget and a fish eye, and it would have been the most artistic video ever made.

Your small bourgeois minds cannot handle the tortured soul arteeeeste of Lady Gaga.

    What was the point?...

I mean, at least her other videos had a plot. This one didn't follow the music and it appeared not to have a plot. It was stylish, definitely, but it's not remotely as memorable as her other stuff. I think.

That said, that song will be stuck in my head for the forseeable future.

It looks like unless there is a miracle then Alejandro will not make it to #1 and will end Gaga's run. It is currently #4 on mediabase but looks like it is going to slip back a spot very quickly to "Airplanes." Not far behind is Katy Perry's new single and she is gaining ground fast. Alejandro is doing well, don't get me wrong, but this looks like it may not even make it to the top 3. A top 5 radio hit is HUGE for everyone except Gaga, she has never had anything less than a #1.

Well it's clearly based on Madonna. Suppose the only question is if it's a tribute or a fcuk you to those of us who about her claiming Madonna did it better years earlier

Whatever her inspiration I just wish she'd run off and do a hardcore porn film so that even she gets tired of flashing her crotch.

The video is so over-produced for a rather simplistic song. The song can't sustain the video. Every video after Bad Romance is over-produced. She needs to get back to the more basic video format of "Just Dance".

The boys are hot, but their bowl haircuts are .... unfortunate .

Oh, wow, I just assumed that it was #1 already. I didn't know it was that dire for her. Although, I have to say, I am not surprised. I don't know many people who like this song, especially compared to her past hits. (Airplanes and California Gurls, on the other hand, are soooo good! lol)

I watched the video, and hmmm...I'm just over her music videos at the moment. They become less and less related to the actual song and more and more about some abstract thing for which I'm not willing to use any brainpower to figure out. I was definitely uncomfortable halfway through as well. Count me in as another one who would love to see Gaga make a simple music video next time.

I don't really see this as Madonna video v2.

It's darker, weirder, more unsettling, less airbrushed

It's just an Ace of Base song. The music is "Don't Turn Around" with the lyrics of "All That She Wants".

The video is really good eye candy (both the gorgeous cinematography and gorgeous people).

The machine gun bra had me

You're right! I was trying to figure out what song "Alejandro" reminded me of and I kept going back to "La Isla Bonita," but you are on point with the Ace of Base comparison.

There's a vid of this song produced by Perez Hilton where at the end the song morphed into "I Saw The Sign", and the brunett girl from AOB appeared in the video. The vid also parodied La Isla.

absolutely agree! the song is a combo of "La Isla Bonita" and all those summer hits - the melody, the lyrics (Alejandor Alejandro ad nauseam plus some other names ). juxtaposed with this Manson-esque video, it creates an unintentionally comic effect. at least "Poker Face" and "Just Dance" were just honest portraits of some posh parties, without any pretence to be very sophisticated and artistic. now it's over the top getting too over the top and excess of form over matter...

I think the verses of the song have the vocal sound of Ace of Base, but the chorus has the style and sound of Agnetha and Anni-Frid [ABBA]

Oh yeah I didn't mean the video, I meant Gaga's music in general.

Just like Madonna, she does middle-of-the-road pop and it's really annoying to see her being perceived as "oh-so-groundbreaking."

Electro scene has been really vibrant for the last 10 years or so and Gaga is just leeching of it, bringing into the popular domain what used to be underground. There is nothing groundbreaking in it.

On another note, she seems even better than Madonna at attracting attention and that helps her immensely.
