They look like anthropomorphic 1990s parking meters.

Mini Ice just saw these on the screen and said "Monsters, Inc.!"

I think the Monsters, Inc. monsters were mostly cute excepting Randall but these are just creepy.

Or Mike Wazowski in an auto detailing shop disaster.

This was my face when I first saw the pictures:

Just....no. Who is ON this design committee and how can we tar and feather them? This is an utter disgrace. I don't think the Brits all have THAT bad a taste!

I have yet to see anyone who likes those things. They're hideous and terrifying. I seriously think it was a conscious decision.

Over time I think my least favorite are:

    London 2010 things
    Athens weird stubby headed children
    Albertville star thing
    Izzy
    Torino Neve & Gliz

    Faves are:

    Vancouver esp Quatchi
    Moscow Misha
    Sarajevo Vucko
    Montreal Amik
    Nagano Snow Owls
    Salt Lake

Clearly I like animal mascots, not human, abstract, or object/amorphous blob mascots.

Hmmm...When I first saw them, I thought "wow, that takes ugly to a whole new level", but the more I look at them, the less they scare me. haha

Some of the comments are even more hilarious:

The Vancouver 2010 Mascots were soft, loveable, cuddly animal mascots and everyone, especially children, adored them. It was exactly what they wanted. I know this because I saw children, teens and even adults line up forever just to meet the mascots and have their photos taken with them. At a school visit, you would honestly think that they were rock stars. The children were so happy and excited to see them that I heard things like "this is the best day of my life" and "I was so happy I cried" when describing their experience meeting the mascots. Miga, Quatchi and Sumi, also told a story but not one that would scare the bejesus out of people. The London 2012 mascots are dreadful. First their logo, now this??? Who is running the show over there?
I went to DisneyWorld as a child and I met all the characters (aka people dressed up in suits). I had fun, but I did not cry nor think it was the best day of my life. What terribly mundane lives those children that Tammy knows must live.
To think that fun is simple fun, while earnest things are earnest, proves all too plain that neither one thou truthfully discernest.

In the little cartoon film about their creation, they can morph into athletes which is cute. The blow up doll version is much more

Like if the logo wasn´t enough

Every olympics I tend to enjoy the atmosphere, the venues and how they look on tv, but I just can´t think about what it will look on the screen with the crappy logo and those things hanging around

More mascot snarking - this one is funny too:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/oth...g-rubbish.html

the comments below range from disgusting to

I seen them there "mascots", and I reckons them looks like two iced buns what got left over at Woolworths snack bar.

Be they to attract folks out of Lunnon to thee shires? They named them iced bun chaps Mandeville and Wenlock, well blow me down, I used to plough with a team as was named Mandeville and Wenlock, poor old pieces they was, Suffolk Punches but only just; but I can't see as
how them millions of Oh-limpic visitors from all over the worrrld a-flyin into Lunnon is going to say "AHA! That Wenlock and that there Mandeville, they fair makes me want to go up to Shropshire to see a bit o' hedging and ditchin and maybe look in on parson Jones's garden
    fete!"

What thinkst of they? I hear as how someone actually spent money to dream up they stale old iced buns. Can't be true, eh?

I know I love this one too from the same Telegraph link:

These mascots are a result of political correctness taken to the extreme. To appease every possible special interest group, race, nationality, and ethnicity, the designers had to create mascots that have no attibutes resembling any specific group. They knew that as soon as these mascots were unveiled every group in the world would be looking for some resemblence to their cause so that they could act outraged and get some free publicity.
Haha, if they'd unveiled a unicorn, I'd loved to have seen all the unicorn special interest groups acting outraged and looking for free publicity.
