Journalist: “What happened?”
Nathalie: “I don’t know. You should ask Fabian. Where is he?! (…) Of course I’m angry. Had it happened at a grand prix event, it wouldn’t be the same..Here for the first time we had a shot to medal, and we missed it.”
Voiceover: “Forget it. NP & FB won’t medal at the world championships, at least not this year.”
Fabian: “It was mostly my fault, and I can’t say I’m proud of this.”
Nathalie: “You know it happens sometimes, that’s sports. I’m not blaming him. The thing is, we had a great season, and we’re ending it on this.. ”
Voiceover: “Tonight, Chaplin made people cry and the city lights made room for ‘darkness’. Third after the short dance, NP & FB seemed to float. 2’11 of happiness in another world, before crashing back on Earth. One fall on their footwork sequence. One fall and it was all over. Too many points lost. The podium just slipped away.”
Journalist: “When you fall, what’s going through your mind?”
Fabian: “You feel like swearing”.
Nathalie: “Well, you actually want to wake up from that nightmare.”
Fabian: “You try to pull yourself together immediately but you know it’s over.”
Nathalie: “No, when you make a mistake on a circular (step sequence) or any technical element, you know it’s done.”
Voiceover: “Yet, NP & FB conclude their program with dignity and beauty but they rank 4th, just off the podium.”
Nathalie: “It’s gonna be very difficult to get through the next two days. At the Europeans, it was just bliss. Here, it’s gonna be tough to wake up tomorrow and come to terms with it.”
Voiceover: “Reigning world champions, and winners of two grand prix events, NP & FB just missed their first world podium, when they had a real shot at it.”
Nathalie: “We’ve had a great season and now we’re finishing it on this. That’s tough to accept. I have the feeling that somehow it erases all the great performances we’ve given this season.”
Joubert: “You have to accept it. Deal with it.”
Voiceover: “The French team leaves Moscow exactly as in 2005…without any medal.”
