Some of these have such high quality video of rare moments, I am tempted to repost one in the youtube thread. Watching these, especially the film aired on the 'Nostalgia' network (the one w/the hammer/sickle logo) makes me indeed romanticize the past, albeit politically repressive and unknown to me, just for the beauty of their artistic expression. We get so caught up in point counting nowadays, calculating the URs, the timing of lifts, the effects of the constantly changing rules in this sport... Just watching these two dance takes me to a different dimension. Also... I understand dance and society change, but I would prefer if some recent drama-prone Russian ice dancers (such as Domnina, or Pasha, of course) could take a few lessons in overall behaviour from this bygone era...
