This is completely ridiculous. If they were close to the same size, they wouldn't be able to do lifts, twists, throws, etc. It's actually good for the guy to be 1.5-2x the weight of the girl and to be about 6-12" taller than the girl. Skaters do not get extra points for anything related to their physical size. Unison and closeness on the ice are desired traits.
You are something...![]()
Actually, Universal Sports has a nice interview with Castelli and Shnapir and it includes discussion of their intent to do a throw triple axel as well as Simon's extreme height and it's impact on their skating.

Thanks!at this answer:
Castelli/Shnapir's throw 3A attempt was very exciting to see in person at Middle Atlantics -- I think they have a good shot at landing it in competition this season!Simon, you were born in Moscow and speak fluent Russian...
SS: Does that help me at competitions with the other Russian skaters? Yes. Every time I'm at a competition they always say something. I keep my mouth shut until the end of the week and just come out and say, ‘I understand everything you said.' Now a lot of them know, but some still don't.
Thanks for posting that link. I absolutely loved Castelli & Schnapir's Survivor themed SP.
To be fair to Polymer Bob, I remember a long time ago (I mean, years and years, pre CoP even) reading an article with speculation that there might be some kind of points or bonus for pairs that were not ridiculously dissimilar in height and weight. It was supposed to be a reaction against all the Soviet "one and a half" pairs. But it was obviously impossible to put into practice, and silly besides.
Also, Caroline Knoop/Daniel O'Shea are scheduled to for their debut in Junior Pairs here.Evora/Ladwig are scheduled to make their season debut at their home club's competition (Nancy Archie-Meyer Memorial) this weekend in Ellenton, Florida.
I've heard about some U.S. pairs that are competing in the Pikes Peak Classic in Colorado Springs this weekend -- they include: Molly Aaron/Daniyel Cohen and Lisa Moore/Justin Gaumond in Senior, the new team of Andrea Poapst (from Canada)/Chris Knierim are debuting in Junior, Junior FS only for Mandy Garza/Brandon Frazier, and Madeline Aaron/Max Settlage in Novice.
That's very good for so early on. Let's not forget one element has been dropped from the SP this season.![]()
Holy crap! Amazing scores! I can't wait to see them skate!![]()
Maybe there will be a video. We can hope!![]()
Perhaps this was posted somewhere else but here is Marley-Brubaker skating at St. Moritz:

Looks good but you can all make your own judgments!
Wow they look great considering it's been just weeks!
In my spare time, I like to interview figure skating legends.
Surprised by their 'awareness' of each other on the ice for so little time together.
they looked like ants in the vid, but -
-their Death spiral looks beautiful.
-She lands the throw 2sal with no glitch, nice and smooth.
-nice Pairs spiral
-Their SBS spins looked like they need unison but that will come with time
They scored 111.24 which is really good for a first competition. Too bad they didn't compete early they should have gotten a JGP with that score.
