They have announced the Senior and Junior CDs as being *tentative*,

*Pending 2010 ISU Congress decision on the ice dance event.

I assume that the USFSA rules/procedures stipulate that they release the CD information for 2010-11 right now, despite the ISU's proposed upcoming changes which may change the situation for Juniors and Seniors.

No, the proposed short dances require the Viennese Waltz for Juniors and the Golden Waltz for Seniors.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Finnstep/Quickstep.....

And, until the ISU proposals are adopted or not....
this announcement gives teams time to start on the new dances.
Though I would not commit $$ to new costumes! ;-)

It's been sounding pretty clear that the ID tech committee proposal is a done deal, so hopefully junior and senior teams have turned their attention to the short dance already.

From what's being interpreted from the ISU's communication, the pattern dance within the short dance will change from year to year. It could be combined with a theme or a rhythm.

Do you know if the themes/rhythms will come from the list of CD's (or pattern dances) so that the short dance will always be one of the waltzes/tangos/Yankee Polka/Paso/etc? Or will they take parts of the CDs/patterns and put them into a different theme so that we have things like folk dances or different eras?

I'm not even sure if the ISU knows what they want to do beyond this year. It sounds like they've covered all their bases though, so they can do a combination of things. For example,

combining optional and/or set patterns from existing CD's with a rhythm (what they are doing this year),

combining optional and/or set patterns from existing CD's with a theme (music from the 50's, 60's, 70's)



The rhythm (or group of rhythms) and/or theme(s) as well as the guidelines and technical requirements for the Junior and Senior programs, including specified elements will be published annually by the Ice Dance Technical Committee in an ISU Communication.

• Dance Spin(s) – see Rule 604, paragraph 14 e;

• Sequence(s) of Pattern Dances;
• Combination(s) of steps/turns from Pattern Dances.
