It starts tomorrow. Laura has already travelled to Japan.

If only I could be there! My daughter may see the show but it is not sure yet.

I attended the first show today. TV cameras were there, so I assume they will use today's performances for the broadcast on Sunday.

IIRC this annual show started to give Japanese skaters more stage oppotunities so they can get used to skating in front of big audience. Then they started inviting abroad guests to inspire young skaters.
I enjoy the show every year mainly because I can watch up and coming junior and novice skaters whom rarely seen in other shows, and because top skaters often show us their new programs.

    Opening.
I think I saw Daisuke attempted a quad flip and stepped out, but I may be just wrong. His costume design was similar to the one for his POTO.
Shoma Uno: first time to watch him live. Landed a beautiful triple.
Mao was wearing a T shirt and Jeans. She looks good in the casual cloth.
Plushenko makes the rink look small. No doubt he is most popular in the cast and got loudest cheers through the show every time he takes the ice.
Kozuka looks like having grown a bit, but maybe it is because his posture.
Fumie was wearing black costume with a feel of something between rock and bondage.

Shoma Uno. Fly me to the moon. In Suits and a tie. Adorable.
He is tiny (12 yo, looks like 8) but very impressive. The program had a brief reverse camel spin.

Yukiko Fujisawa. Chim Chim Cherry, as a chimney sweeper.
She must have been grown a lot! Last time she looked like a little child and now she can look like a senior skater.

Kento Nakamura. Jazz I do not recognize, with the brasses.
Black not-so-long sleeve shirt, black tie and light purple short pants.
I think it is the contrast between the shirt, pants and the rink, but he looks like as if.... he is not wearing pants but skating just with the shirt and the skates He is handsome but it did not look good.
Apparently it was not his day either and he kept messing up not only jumps but spins.

Haruka Imai. Pink tubetop, pink long boots, and pom-poms.
The costume was gorgeous. The program was not so much.

    Takahashi/Tran. Their new SP.
The music is all strings and I recognise it as one in alcohol advertisement. (I know it is hardly a clue but I cannot remember anything other than that. )

Yuzuru Hanyuu. His new SP but arranged for a gala.
The music is Swanlake with Japanese traditional instruments.
in a unitard with black pants, white and black feathery top with some dark purple.
Tried a quad toe but fell. This was least feminine swanlake I have seen. Love it.

Kanako Murakami. "Be Italian" from Nine the musical. (I think it was from the film soundtrack)
I do not get it. She is still 15 yo. How come they keep giving her these middle-aged women songs?? Last year her ex was Miss Baltimore from Hairspray. It is not like she understands the music, nor they want her to understand.
She is very musical and is a good dancer. Why not giving her something worth chewing over?
BTW she brought a chair and a tambourine. Did not use the chair much but the tambourine a lot. She landed a gorgeous triple-triple somewhere in the show.

Yasuharu Nanri. He came in with long blonde wig under a silk hat.
It was a medley of his past ex programs (I think) and he kept changing costumes to the music
It was quite funny with a wig, a wrestler, Enka and all.

Fumie Suguri. Like an arabian princess in blue with a big bra.

Tatsuki Machida. Boy he is wonderful.
I did not take note just because I was busy watching him

Jingu Ice Messengers. Synchro team consists of 12 girls.

Then Zamboni before the second act.

    to be continued (perhaps).

    Friday show, the second half.

Reed/Reed. Swan. White, rather simple costumes. Chris's hair is now short and wow his head is small!!
They shows a new lift here and in the opening, in which she climbs up on him by stepping on the thigh then slowly going down with rotating around him a lot. It must be very new for them and not very smooth yet.
The choreography does not do justice to this beautiful piece of music at all. It was like watching another program to a wrong music.
ETA: the music may have been Thais. Thais and Swan somehow sound very similar to me

    Takahiko Kozuka. Take Five
I thought he got back from Canada with some new programs, but I would not mind watching his Take Five again
There are many skaters who can express music by the upper body but with Kozuka he express it by edges

Akiko Suzuki. Jealousy (Tango). In black with hint of red.
I thought the stss was not as showy as the last season. Or she just needs some more time to sell it.
ETA: Akiko did a four-jump combination somewhere in the show.

    Stephane Lambiel. Good Times.
There were 50 or more banners for him It is incredible especially when the arena holds only about 2000 people . And he did not disappoint us.

    Laura Lepisto. in blue. Jupiter.
She skated to the Japanese song.
She looks gorgeous with curly hair.

    Evgeny Plushenko. Je Suis Malade.
Loudest welcome from the audience. Who said Japanese audience is quiet We can be as loud as Koreans. It rarely happens but it did here
His belly looks grown a bit.

Miki Ando. black jacket, short pants and a hat.
The costume and the choreography remind me of Fosse. It suits her very well.
She skated it with a radiant smile. I lurrve when she skates happily.

Daisuke Takahashi. La Valse d'Amelie (piano)
As I already wrote in another thread, it was like watching Stephane skating using Dai's body. Dai really copied Stephane's moves, like Hollywood CG work Spin is also better than the past.
The costume looks like... black ballet leotard a girl would wear + black Jeans. I did not like it. It is fine when he is standing still, but once he starts skating, the costume looks too girlie, and not in a good way. The skirt should go, or change the shape at least.

Mao Asada. a piano piece which I do not recognize. Simple white dress with a long skirt made by a thin fabric. Like one Forsythe or Garshwin ballet would use.
I think it is her new gala program. The choreography has balletic moves and she does them beautifully. I love the program but Charlotte never looks good with a long skirt.
She had problems with axels today.

ETA: Finale. Dai and Stephane synchronized very well. They can make a great pair

There are 3 more shows on the weekend, and first broadcast (one hour) comes on Sunday, then some more coverage (two hours) in other channels on July 6th and 11th.

ETA: there will be 3D broadcast on July 17th Must be fun. I do not know if I can watch it 3D on my TV though.

This is a special show program for Laura to be used in this show in Japan. My daughter Tiina (who is Laura's friend and who has Japanese friends, too) made this program to Laura. Tiina is currently in Japan, too, but I am not sure if she gets a chance to see the show.

Wow! They announced that it is a special program for the show, but they did not tell us it was your daughter's!
That is great and hope she gets a chance to see the show.
