I heard that since SOI would be back there in Nov for rehearsals and that's why SA couldn't be there next year, (unlike this past year when they started the tour much later)

Still would like to know if the location for Skate Canada 2010 has been announced yet.

And its in Portland. So what is your point, it should never be in Lake Placid? Hopefully, the USFSA doesn't agree with you.

Not thrilled that the event is so far away from me, but Portland did a good job with Nationals (can't blame them for the ice storm) and there were a lot of hotels of various price points and good public transportation. I expect they'll do a good job of putting on the event.

Some people are frustrated with the location? try being from Texas. We don't get anything remotely close. Well, we got Dallas in 2003, except that some of us can drive for 10 hours and still not be there.

I drive to Lake Placid. I stop in NYC and see my friends, then keep going, shop at Harriman fabulous outlets or stop at Tarrytown/Woodstock to see friends or Lake George or whatever and keep going. And more shopping and walking and cool Olympic history in LP! And sitting and staring at the view. And awesome maple syrup for pancakes. It's fabulous! I want to go now!

I just noticed that they have skeleton rides in LP! Wheee, I have done the luge and bobsled, but I must go for skeleton sometime!

That said, I loved Portland when I visited back in the 80s. It is a beautiful city. I prefer driving 10 hours than flying for 5 though.
I think I will have a snack and take a nap before I eat and go to sleep.

Lake Placid is a place I've been to many times and every time, it's a pain in the ass. I'm excited to go some place where there is a major airport! (By miles, I live closer to LP.) I don't want to take two or three flights then a bus ride. It's a beautiful city but it's a trek to get there. It's like 10 hours at minimum from my location in a major U.S. city. I know other people had complaints. We'll complain about everything.
Are you arguing with me about Lake Placid? I'm the one who'd said she'd rather go to Lake Placid than to Paris!

ETA: and Lake Placid is not a city! That's the whole point!

P.S. For the record I have it worse than living in Texas.
If I really want to go to something, it is my responsibility to make it happen...or not.
IMO, there is no whining in Figure Skating fandom.

I've loved all the locations where SA has been when I've gone except Reading. Hartford was great because it was so easy. Pittsburgh was really nice. And Atlantic City was really fun!

Reading was incredibly easy for me to get to so even there I'd go again.

Awww, I was hoping it would be in Lake Placid again. No, not convenient for those who don't drive in, but I had a great mother and daughter weekend with my mom who lives only a few hours away.

It was second to Washington, DC worlds for me (Yes, I live there...).

Lake Placid was a long drive for me, but I went with friends and we're still talking, so it was well worth it.

I do understand the spreading the wealth concept, and since Nationals hasn't been anywhere near the east coast for a while, I'll be making my way to North Carolina in January.

But people who are pointing out that the midwest has been seriously slighted have a really good point.

We (in Minnesota) have so many quality rinks and arenas, a ton of figure skating clubs/fans and a major airport. What's not to love! Even Chicago would be a good option!

Perhaps I'll lobby the TCFSA to try and put in a bid for Skate America next year.
