Canada bidding for 2013 world championship

I like Toronto myself. The weather in March is much warmer than in chilly Winnipeg. The city itself is tourist friendly with lots to do and great shopping and restaurants. It's traveller friendly with so many nice hotels in all price ranges, and I don't believe any major competetition has ever been held there. The public transportation there is pretty good too.

Ottawa's my second choice.

I would love to see Worlds in Toronto. I've loved the time I've spent there. However, I do wonder about the arena situation, since the ACC hasn't been interested in hosting skating events in the past. Perhaps that has changed now. It's a beautiful arena.

I'd be fine with Ottawa or Winnipeg as both seem to have the facilities necessary for Worlds. If QC gets a new rink too, then perhaps that. I know Skate Canada wasn't pleased with the rink the last time they hosted an event there (2007 Skate Canada).

But London...just no. The rink is new, clean, and great for smaller events. I even think it was mostly fine in 2005 for Nationals, but this year, it was bit of a nightmare. There's not enough public transportation, nearby parking, hotel rooms, or space just on the concourse in the arena, and the horseshoe-shape of the concourse was an issue for spectators and credentialed people alike. There wasn't space for the media to be in the backstage area, so they set up a makeshift hallway that took up half the concourse on one side of the arena. And if they had all of those issues for Nationals, can you imagine what it would be like for Worlds? Yikes.

Is Canada confirmed? Isn't the US on a 4 or 5 year rotation? LA 2009..Vancouver 2010.Boston 2013? (just wishful thinking)

It was 6 years between DC in 2003 and LA 2009.

According to this article that Rafter posted in another thread, Toronto is not bidding. The four bidders are Quebec City, Winnipeg, Ottawa, and London.

For reference, here are the worlds that Canada has hosted:

My choice would be Winnipeg (as Manitoba has never hosted) or Quebec City (since Quebec hasn't hosted since 1932).

Either Toronto or London will be absolutely fine for me. I have a sister nearby. But, how I love Toronto. One of the most wonderful cities I have visited (along with Vancouver). I was there in Dec. 1987 and was lucky enough to watch (and study) for a few days Brian Orser trainging for the Olympics. I didn't get a good opportunity like that since then though I visited there several more times.

year 3000 is good one, since Aussies have ample time to prepare someone to finish in top 10. i hope it is some eastern european country, possibly a Russia's neighbour (Kiev, Minsk or Baku). This will hopefully allow somewhat same atmosphere as Sochi.

Would love for it to be in London so that I could drive there and check it out. My best friend has family there so we could stay with them for a few days. :-)

I'd love to see Quebec City get it, but they would have to do some major work on the arena!

Quebec city has a rather dumpy arena (with horrible food), but it's is a lovely city,although the arena is a bit out of the way. Ottawa has a great arena, but in not too great a location (although the transport situation could be easily fixed- they often run special buses for activities there). I wonder if London's arena is a bit small- but it's in a great location. Winnipeg seems to have both Location and arena (so I've heard- I have never been to the Arena, although Winnipeg is nice), but hasn't run a major event for a while, although that could and should be fixed in the next couple of years.

So any city has its pluses and minuses. Any would be fine, although I am rooting for Ottawa (rock band party in cygnus's basement- wheee!)
