This is already being discussed in "Other Sports" in one or more of the gymnastic threads. I don't think this article has been linked yet, however, so thanks for that.

Is bone necrosis what led skaters like Lipinski and Yagudin to hip replacement operations or is Dong Fangxiao's predicament much more severe?

Thank you for the article. I hope my question isn't too ignorant.

I don't believe Tara had a hip replacement, just some bad cartliage tears that had to be surgically corrected. (FWIW, this is the same injury Michelle Kwan developed after 2002.)

Yagudin had a congenital defect with his hip socket, which is why he finally had a hip replacement so he could continue skating. My understanding is that if he hadn't become an elite athlete it may never have been an issue.

Neither of them had bone necrosis as far as I know.

Thank you for your response. I've no longer expected it.

Like this picture depicts? Because the article does mention necrosis. (I know it's Wiki, but I gotta start with something easy to understand. )

Wish IceAlisa was more of a gymnastics fan.

    Why?

IIRC, Kwan had a labrum tear. I don't recall a mention of necrosis, that's something serious. Necrosis=tissue death.

I see I'm mixing things up. Thank you both for helping to clear it up.
