I almost included “The Last Song” in this month’s poll, but I got conflicting dates for when the movie would be released, so maybe it will appear in the April thread.

There are four movies on my radar, Green Zone, Stolen, Season of the Witch and Chloe. I have not gone to the movies as much as I used to but I plan on seeing a few movies this month. I will definitely go see almost anything with Matt Damon in it.

We are so SO excited about Alice in Wonderland.. it looks like it's gonna be fab! My mom was saying that apparently it's about Alice going back to Wonderland when she's 19 or something, so it's not the original story.

I have no idea what Chloe is but I voted for it because I lurve Julianne Moore. I also voted for Alice in Wonderland and She's Out of My League.

I am so ashamed to see Elisabeth Shue in something like Piranha 3-D! Why would she accept a role in a crap movie like that. She is an incredible actress, she should be doing much better roles. Isn't she a doctor or something? I don't think she needs to take crap roles for money. I saw the preview play before Avatar and honestly, the entire audience just laughed. That movie has no chance in hell, it looks like someone just trying to cash in on the 3D craze.

Just wanted to say that the movie "Stolen" looks great, however, it claims to be inspired by a true story. I think the true story they are talking about is the infamous "boy in a box" story which remains unsolved and bears no resemblance to the movie. But it still looks like a great movie!

'Hot Tub Time Machine' FTW! Saw the promo during [I dunno, the Olympics or RuPaul's Drag Race is about all I viewed last week], and thought it was awful awful awfully funny. I remember almost spitting water. Cusack is certainly slumming it ... hopefully it's a complete lark.

Looking forward to 'Repo Man', 'Leaves of Grass' (Edward Norton and Tim Blake Nelson! Great actors.) and 'Alice ...' of course.

I'll add a log to the Fail Please! chorus for Pattinson. I've never seen an actor with less charisma, who has just the one facial expression, and deserves further proof that he is a one-trick pony. WHO the heck finds this mole-eyed, weak-chinned, pasty-faced man attractive? In-context with the vampire stories, I see the allure. Out-of-context, uh, no.

Burton has left me disappointed with his films post-Sleepy Hollow. However, I'm willing to give Alice in Wonderland a chance. I don't know why, considering how I hate anything Wonderland, other than the fact that I love the cinematography of his films.

Alice!!! I saw an exhibit of Tim Burton's artwork at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC last weekend, and it got me SO excited. My friends and I are planning on going to Alice's Tea Cup, which is kind of a tea room thing in NYC, and then seeing the movie afterward.

I'd also like to see Remember Me bomb, not because I hate Robert Pattinson, but because I hate hearing about him every. single. day. Maybe if his movie does badly, people will realize he's human and not actually Edward Cullen.

I decided to start doing this monthly threads again because I enjoy movies so much, and I actually watch each movie preview that I post a link to. Well...almost every movie trailer. Occassionally there is a movie that does not interest me in the least! Or sometimes the trailer starts out and I think, "this looks incredibly stupid!!!!" So I can't make it all the way through. That said, here's the trailers that impressed me the most this month:

Green Zone. Matt Damon can't seem to do anything wrong these days, so I expect this one is going to be as great as the Bourne movies, all of which I have really enjoyed. And the espionage genre is not at the top of my list of favourite genres!

Our Family Wedding. This one surprised me. I was expecting it to be stupid or boring, but the trailer made me laugh out loud two or three times. And while I enjoy movies in many ways, I don't usually laugh out loud. So it'll be interesting to see if the movie is as good as the trailer.

Chloe. I had not heard anything about this movie until I saw the trailer. But it had Julianne Moore in it, and Moore seems to be the kind of actor who should be welcome into the "if _____ is in it...then it is going to be GOOD!" club. Plus Liam Neeson, who maybe should belong to that group as well. This movie just looks to be really high quality, well written, directed and acted. Definitely looking forward to this one.

The Runaways. This one might not surprise you as I put "The Runaways" first in both the movie and music poll thread titles. (That wasn't on purpose, honestly!) But I have acquired every single Joan Jett album since "Do You Wanna Touch Me" from her first album, "Bad Reputation". Plus with Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart and Tatum O'Neal in the cast, this one looks even more promising.

Ca$h. This one looks like it could be quite intense, but I'm not sure it's going to get a wide release. I think it might get a limited release, and then go to DVD in a couple of months. I think it was released in Europe last year. But the trailer is scary/good and it's a definite on my list of movies to see.

The Rebound. This is another one that surpised me. My first thought was that it would be a dopey romantic comedy, but Zeta-Jones doesn't really make stupid movies, so I don't know why I thought that. It looks much more appealing and endearing that I would have guessed.

I was supposed to go tuesday but got busy. I thought Clash Of The Titans was this month and wanted to ask how could you forget it! LOL But then realised it is NEXT month. I do want to see The Crazies. Love me a good zombie movie and still have a craving for twinkies thanks to Zombieland. Also plan to see Stolen on sunday.

I went with a friend to see Alice In Wonderland today. I have good news and I have bad news.

The good news is that I got to see it in 3-D and it might be the most beautiful film of 2010. If it doesn't get Oscar nominations next year for art direction, cinematography and maybe costuming, it will be a crime.

As for the 3-D, I haven't seen this kind of movie in quite a while, am I correct in assuming that 3-D is no longer gimmicky and it simply adds a bit more dimension to the work? I was expecting a lot more depth and extremes and things moving from very far away to right in my face. With other 3-D movies, people actually move in their seats and make gasps at various parts of the movie. Nothing like that happened with AIW.

The bad news. I HATED IT!!!! Hated, hated, hated it. After 40 minutes, I leaned over to my friend and said, "should we cut our losses and LEAVE"? She wasn't sure if I was joking, I later said, "that was just my way of saying I'm not enjoying it".

The script is SO incredibly thin. I was DESPERATELY trying to find some sort of plot. It seemed as if they put an IMMENSE amount of energy into the amazing look of the movie and just before they started to film it, somebody said, "what about a script!!! we forgot to get a script!!!"

My friend said she had heard reviews that said the plot was lacking, so she wasn't expecting much. I had not heard any reviews. I think Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are a fantastic team, so I was very disappointed.

I did enjoy Helena Bonham Carter. And Anne Hathaway does a decent job with a fairly small role.

Bottom line: If you want really enjoy BEAUTIFUL looking movies, yet don't care if there is much of a plot, this is a must-see. If you want a strong story along with the visuals, wait for this one on DVD.

Oh I forgot about The Crazies. We want to see that too.

So was there anything special about watching it in 3-D? All these movies are jumping onto the 3-D bandwagon due to the success of Avatar. The problem is that while Avatar was filmed with 3-D cameras, these other movies like AIW were/ are filmed with regular 2-D cameras and then converted into 3-D in post-processing. The final effect achieved by these 3-D post conversion process cannot match what people saw with Avatar.

The bad news. I HATED IT!!!! Hated, hated, hated it. After 40 minutes, I leaned over to my friend and said, "should we cut our losses and LEAVE"? She wasn't sure if I was joking, I later said, "that was just my way of saying I'm not enjoying it".

It got only 53% approval rating on rottentomatoes. Doesn't sound like it's worth it to me to see it.

Well I guess I won't expect too much when I go tomorrow night then haha. Boyfriend is all about the effects so he'll probably like it a lot.. and I'm sure I'll still like it because it's Alice I'm not overly picky with movies.. as long as I'm entertained I'm happy.

I agree that the 3D effects are nothing special. At the beginning I thought there was something wrong with my glasses as I couldn't see anything 3D so I took them off to clean them and then I realised that I could see perfectly even without them, just in plain 2D, while for Avatar you need to keep your glasses on all the time, without them the picture is blurry. The falling through the hole is pretty much the only time there is actually some use of them.

I didn't hate the movie, I am no big fan of Alice in general and I was prepared about the story so i wasn't exactly disappointed but I wasn't blown away either. The plot is pretty much predictable (slightly better than Avatar but that's because of Lewis Carrol), but Helena B Carter is cool, Anne Hattaway gives a good performance, too. I am still undecided about Johnny Depp as I'll have to see it in original language (all the Italian movie thaters dub the film ). He is a great actor but this role is kinda meh...They've tried to expand the role of the Mad Hatter in order to give Joihnny more screen time but there is only so much you can do with a crazy rambling character...

I lurves me some Pattinson! I actually think he's got range on facial expressions. Keep in consideration he's played a 109 y/o depressed vampire who's not getting laid and is starving from 60 years so umm I think he portrays it pretty well
Anyways I think he's got a comic vein too because he sounds pretty self-deprecating so I'm willing to bet on the guy. Now, if only they gave him to play Jeff Buckley that would be awesome!

AIW earned $116.3 mil at the B.O. from Friday to Sunday. People obviously didn't care about the mixed reviews. It'll be interesting to see how much repeat business it'll do once people have gotten over their initial interest.

The success of AIW could only mean even more 3D movies down the piple. Ugh.

I felt the exact same way about Fantastic Mr. Fox. The changes Wes Anderson made to the story were just plain awful, especially the whole whiny-son-hates-better-looking cousin subplot. Blah. It was such a shame as it was visually amazing.
