Surfer Andy Irons found dead in hotel room

Irons, 32, was discovered dead Tuesday morning in Room 324 of the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport's Grand Hyatt Hotel in Grapevine, Texas, along with the prescription medications alprazolam and zolpidem, according to a Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Police report.

Phil Irons was in Texas yesterday tending to his son's affairs and said that Irons died of dengue fever, a viral illness transmitted by mosquitoes in tropical climates. "He's gone. My son is gone," he said.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office on Tuesday told the Star-Advertiser that a container of Zolpidem actually contained methadone, a powerful controlled substance most commonly used for pain.

I am a fan of Andy. He was a great champion, although personally a bit of a cocky bastard. I actually shared an article link a few days ago with friends when it was breaking news. However, few noticed in the wake of the elections.

Fortunately for his child to come, he did very well for himself, although this is not a replacements for a father. He accomplish more in honors and finances than many with less years.

I actually suspect that his death may have been more related to treatment of something else, but I am saddened. Somebody lost a son. Somebody lost a partner. Somebody lost a father. Surfing lost a champion.
