    Wozniacki vs Wozniak, AGAIN?!

    That Henin/Dmentieva/Clijsters quarter is

    Sharapova to win it all.

I see a Clijsters-Serena final with Clijsters winning.

As for the men really tough to say. I think the winner of the Federer-Davydenko will win thsi year.

Winner of the Men - who knows? I think the stars are aligning for Andy Roddick to get to the final - I think he can beat Murray or Nadal in the SF. The other half could be Novak-Roger, but see some spoilers lurking (Davydenko and Tsonga).

Women's - Zvonereva, Dokic and Safina could really tumble down the rankings. Ouch.
Interesting that Kimiko Date could play Azarenka again in Round 3. That would be back-to-back tournaments.

Sports Illustrated's Wertheim "Seed Report". No really big surprises (Finals: Serena over Kim / Djokovic over Del Potro) but IMO Del Potro to the final is ... shaky, given JMDP's apparent wrist problem. Guess we'll see.

Serena was awful in the Sydney final. Not moving at all, shots went everywhere and did not look she cared at all. Elena was good, but Serena never gave her competition.

She'll be fine in Melbourne, though

    ((Elena and her draw)))

ESPN has a totally different view for the women. In their "expert picks," not a single writer picked Serena:

Hope that she was able to profitably mine her excuse database. They must have run out of disk space for that thing already.

Congrats to Big John on #1! Isner just finished off Clement, in Auckland, to win his first ATP tour title.

Nice momentum into the Oz Open, where tall boy has a pretty good draw (until Rafa in the 4th).

Congrats to Alona Bondarenko; she just won the title in Hobart, beating Peer in the final.

ABond! I like her; she's sassy!

Yeah, guess which quarter Wickmayer was placed in? Yeah, THAT one! She'll have to play Pennetta in the 2nd round - Yanina beat her 63 60 in the Auckland final, so Flavia must be banging her head against the wall right now All the Belgians are stuck in that quarter.

Azarenka/Kuznetsova are teaming up for doubles and could face top seeds Black/Huber in the 3rd round.

WTF team award goes to Jankovic/Perry.

Not too many interesting teams in the men's side, except I noted none of the Spanish guys seem to have teamed up.

Not with her draw. Dementieva is the kind of player who has a hard enough time pulling off one major win in a slam, let alone being able to pull off 3 or 4 to win it. If she ever does win a slam she will need a kinder draw. It isnt going to happen here IMO.

Speaking of pictures, I saw this one and thought "wow, Serena is looking cute and demure ... and stylish".

Then I looked closer, and read the caption. So, yeh, can't wait to see Ree's self-designed outfits Monday.

Kudos to Donald Young for at least getting thru qualifying. Good way to start the year for him.

Shenay Perry is the only US lady to get thru qualifying. Perry has done well in majors in the past getting to the 4th rd at Wimbledon and 3rd rd at the French. Bethanie Mattek lost in the final round.

Question: Why did Yanina Wickmayer have to play qualifying? Is it because of her drug suspension (that eventually got lifted)? She won 7-5 in the 3rd in the first rd and then 6-0, 6-0 in the 3rd rd!

    Interesting first rd with Sharapova/Kirilenko.

They have showers in Melbourne right now. I wonder if they'll be able to get many matches in? Live coverage here in the States is supposed to begin in 50 minutes (at 7pm EST).

I forgot they have two arenas with retractable roofs. So we're good to go with lots of live coverage this evening. Yay! I miss my DirecTV I had when I lived in Chicago though. I used to have 6 channels of coverage for the Slams. Now I only have ESPN2. Oh well.

Melbourne is so gorgeous. I'd love to live there for a year or two.
