Cav takes the first stage of the Tour of Missouri - a circuit race in St Louis
Meanwhile in Spain, Cadel managed to hold onto the gold jersey for just one day before giving it up to Valverde, which must make the UCI feel all warm and happy.
And Universal Sports confirmed that it will be showing the World Championships later this month.
Cav apparently got a Harley motorcycle for the win, and there was some discussion of how they'd split the winnings among the team. Cav also talks briefly about losing Hincapie next year in this article.
ETA: George in his new US Champion kit.Maybe the BMC kit will be different.

Team Sky announces 10 more riders :
I thought Gerrans might go to Radio Shack since he was training with Lance over the summer, and it was obvious he was peeved with Cervelo leaving him off the TdF team. The new signings are Edvald Boasson Hagen, Thomas Lövkvist, Kurt Asle Arvesen, Simon Gerrans, Juan Antonio, Flecha, Kjell Calström, John Lee Augustyn, Greg Henderson, Las Petter Nordhaug and Morris Possoni.
I read that Tyler Farrar is leaving the Vuelta. It's his third grand tour of the season, and he may be trying to save something for Worlds.

It was a big mistake on Cervelo's part to leave Gerrans off their TdF squad. Gerrans being smart, relatively all-arounder, he is easily capable of winning grand tour stages, especially the transitional ones.
John Lee Augustyn caught my eyes, as I still remember that crash in TdF. I hope all the best for him.
Any news on Robby Hunter of BarloWorld coming back? What about the KOM guy from BarloWorld?
I think Garden Kitty said Hunter's going to Garmen.
Here's an article from the Garmin site that discusses the new signings including Hunter
And from the Astana Team twitter:
Mark Cavendish did not start at the Tour of Missouri today....broad smiles played across the faces of the other sprinters!

belated congrats to Farrar!![]()

Valverde survived a difficult three days in the mountains and still keeps the gold jersey - while the gold jersey sponsor makes the most of the photo opportunities with messenger bags and patches on the podium girls' jackets' arms.
ETA: Dave Zabriskie gets the overall win at the Tour of Missouri - good for him! It's been a difficult year for him, starting with the robbery at his house earlier this year.

Zabriskie celebrates the win - the first stage race win of his career according to this interview in Cyclingnews.
Former team-mate Jens Voigt (Saxo Bank) gave some insight as to how Zabriskie has evolved as a rider since they were team-mates.
“I think Dave has gotten more freedom with the team he is in now,” Voigt said. “So he can go more with the feeling and go more with the flow. And if he says to Jonathan Vaughters that he doesn’t feel good on a day, then that’s OK. But on our team it was like, ‘hey, we pay you for this and we expect this now’. Dave doesn’t like that too much so he is really happy in that team and you can see that he really is happy and that’s how he pays them back with really good performances.

US Team for Worlds - apparently Hincapie, Levi and Chris Horner all decided not to ride according to Cyclingnews.
ETA: Only Garmin's director Jonathan Vaughters would come up with this gem on twitter
Boy, fashion week in NYC is really something. I'm finding that supermodels are not cycling fans. Well...except for Lance...

Meanwhile in the Vuelta, Valverde looks to have things pretty well locked up and Sanchez seems to have a good hold on second. It looks like it will be Basso and Evans battling it out for the last podium spot in tomorrow's ITT, but I guess anything can happen as the Giro ITT showed.

David Millar wins the ITT at the Vuelta - his first win at Garmin. And he gets a nice sword for his trouble.
Valverde still leads the overall with just the final day to go. I'm sure the UCI is thrilled. He's planning to go to Worlds, and shortly after that, there will be the hearing to see if the ban from Italy should be applied worldwide.
And Cadel Evans rode well enough (or Basso poorly enough) for Cadel to edge out Basso for the last spot on the podium.
Meanwhile, at the Tour of Britain, Michele Merlo got the stage win, which can only help his job hunt since his team Barloworld folds at the end of the season. And Boassan Hagen got four stage wins and the overall victory - a nice way for the future Team Sky rider to make an impression in the UK.

Cycling season is coming to an end. Now, what am I going to do? I don't think i can switch gears to figure skating that quickly. Just don't know what it is, but after watching the Tour of Attrition and Vuelta, I lost interest in figure skating a bit. Figure skating looks a bit too comfortable and too girlie for my taste.
