Keep it going! I hope more and more people get to see it and skating benefits from the attention it might get!

    Updated Screening Schedules

    Directly from the web:

    • NewFest, the New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Film Festival has announced its programming for its 21st annual edition, running June 4-11, 2009. The festival will open on June 4th and close on June 11th with “Pop Star on Ice,” a documentary about Johnny Weir, Olympic figure skater and three-time national champion. Directed by David Barba and James Pellerito, NewFest notes that “this playful documentary reveals how a young Russophile and Chihuahua lover from rural Pennsylvania rose to pop stardom.”

    • Popstar will show some time during the Provincetown Film Festival, held between June 17 and 21st, but the time of showing has yet to be provided

The new POI trailer is up on icenetwork. Although you may need a subscription. That song at the end of the teaser? Apparently, it's Johnny's own rap song for the film. The style is reminiscent of Eminem, but the rapping mentions triple toe loops, Johnny, and coach changes...

I hope this was all worth it. It's not as if he has an Olympic spot sewn up.

Wow. Count me as another one who is surprised (pleasantly) that the trailer (this is not the teaser released a few days ago) is up on IN. I guess USFS figures that any publicity is good publicity right now for skating.

Still digesting the trailer ...loved that the rap rhymed "family" with "Grand Prix"

I think you mean that the song is about Johnny, and not that Johnny wrote the song, right? At least, that's what I got from reading the credits at the end.

    Entertaining trailer, btw.

Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, did people misinterpret me? I've been reading that Johnny wrote the rap song, and wondering where people came up with the information... was it from me?

I cannot find the documentary "Be good Johnny Weir" on the Sundance channel schedule. Am I missing something?

It won't be on the Sundance Channel until January. The reality series is planned for eight weeks and picks up where Pop Star on Ice ends with Johnny preparing for Nationals and (hopefully) the Olympics

A youtube version of the official trailer is out.

Compare 1:52-2:15 of the trailer with 1:12+ of Eminem's The Way I Am! Figure Skating has never sounded so hardcore.

It all makes me super excited for the film, even though I know I probably won't see it.

I am looking forward to both projects!

For those who do not wish to plough through tons of postings and linked articles, it appears that we will be able to see the two projects thus:

    * feature film documentary - as of June 2009 in NYC; other cities??? (I am hoping that the E Street Cinema in Wash, DC will pick it up!)

    * 8-part TV series - commencing January 2010 on Sundance cable channel

The two projects are totally unique and not repeats. The movie follows Johnny's career up through the 2006/07 season. The TV series picks things up after that season and takes him to the present, which may include the 2010 Olympics. The last episode of the TV series will air AFTER those 2010 Olys.

I think it was but not in Johnny's ankle. I'm under the impression that one of his fans has tattoed his autograph in her ankle.
