I hope JWe and the film director/producer/whoever come to the premiere. THAT would be the coolest thing possible. Especially if they take questions or talk to the audience.

Yeah, I'd rather see him do that instead of doing this TV show, but Johnny has never listened to me....

I don't think that this is a good idea for him personally. Potentially, it could be good for skating.

Well, since these guys have apparently been following him around for three years now, he's probably long used to them. In fact, removing them now might throw his aura off.

Yet another sign that I never should have moved away from Seattle. . .

Who determines the classification? The filmmakers, or some board of reviewers?

Yesterday (May 13) was the press screening of Pop Star on Ice at SIFF, and thus far, I have googled up two reviews of the film!

I'm guessing the programmers of the festival.

PML, the SIFF reviewer linked to this thread as evidence of "fan interest"

I may have made a mistake seeing this in the press screenings vs. the public showings. Seems there's (not surprisingly) a lot of fan interest. Often a documentary filled with participants or huge fans make the festival experience far better than just seeing the movie on it's own - see Blood on the Flat Track notes for one of the better examples. So if you're going to go see this doc - might want to try for the first showing where I'm guessing the best post film discussion will take place.

Cool. Can't wait to read reviews from actual skating fans.

aha! So there WILL be a post film discussion! I'm guessing that means that someone connected with the film will be there to represent.

Does Direct TV carry the Sundance station? I can't seem to find the station on my tv.

I think it is a premium channel. I have it, probably as part of a Starz or HBO package.

Sorry, I'm slow... are they going to air the documentary on the Sundance channel soon? I thought they were just premiering the movie at a festival.

The dvd will be premeiring at the festival and will be available for sale sometime between the fall and the Olympics. The Sundance Channel will be showing a weekly reality series about Johnny, similiar to the dvd but a start date has not been announced yet - it will be before the Olympics though. I expect what is shown on the Sundance Channel to be different then what is shown in the dvd.

I don't think so: the DVD is being played onscreen, not a film projection.

My roommate saw the press screening, and although he said that people who are interested in figure skating (he's not) would be more interested in the movie, he thought it was quite good on its own.
