I am on Twitter and really like it. Quite simple to use and much less complicated than something like Facebook. Great to keep in touch with people.

I may be wrong about this (I don't actually use my Twitter account), but a lot of times people will chose to "follow" celebrities and people whom they may not necessarily know on Twitter. I'm guessing that Petukhov doesn't actually know Perez (hehe--that would be a photo op I'd love to see), but he can still follow him if he wants.

I am pretty sure that Denis does know Perez because this is not the first time that Perez has mentioned them. He put Fallen Angels on his blog in '07 when they performed it so they must know each other. They are pretty close friends with Michael Buckley, here is a link to their youtube video they did together.
